Thanks for the kind words! I am looking forward to experiencing this website. It sounds and looks like a very interesting place.

Here’s answers to a couple questions:

Larger pics… I haven’t quite got the hang of using my digital camera to take close up pics but I will keep trying to get better.

Finish on sticks…. I use a two part expoxy finish.

Favorite wood??? Don’t have one … I like to use whatever I find while walking on the trails in the area where I live and from local wood lots. I have been surprised by the beautiful finished product I get with aspen. Of course, diamond willow is always fun to work with too. I was surprised also with Tamarack or Larch which is plentiful in my area. I especially like it because you can find lots of nice straight sticks. Maple and oak are nice too. Sumac has also been a surprise with the green tint to the wood’s natural color.

Length of sticks??? I use the same method used to size ski poles which is to make the stick long enough to fit comfortably under your armpit. This is a very general mearsurement method. It really is up to each individual user to decide what is the best length for them. It needs to be comfortable. I use different lengths myself. I find the longer the stick the longer my stride is so a longer stick makes me walk at a faster pace.

FYI… I belong to the Avon Area Arts group here in Avon MN. We are putting together a wood arts event the weekend of March 29th. This group is trying to create venues and opportunities for artists and fine craft wood workers to showcase and sell their products.

I am looking for any suggestion people have to help us put together an event that will provide a good experience for both the folks showing their work and those attending the event. We haven’t finalize the format for the envet but we need to with the next week.

I would appreciate any suggestions or experiences you could share.

We are currently trying to decide how many participants/artists/woodworkers we should plan to invite to participate. We have debated keeping the numberr low and focused on high quality or more selective types of pieces. We also have discussed just opening it up to anyone who wants to participate

Another issue is do we charge for people to show their work or not?

Do we charge an admission fee?

We don’t have unlimited funds but we want to advertise the event and promote it as much as we can to encourage people to share their work and learn from each other.

Should we use a space available in a local restaurant that is used for wedding receptions and large meetings.

We also have a more unique venue that is a log building used as an archery target range with a wood stove and a very unique character. It is quite a bit smaller than the restaurant space.

Any comments or suggestions would be greatly appreciated…. I would also invite anyone located withing a 30 mile radius of Avon MN to contact me if they are interested in participating in the event.
