Professional studio woodturner, Eurowood Werks Woodturning Studio - The Woodlands, Texas. I opened Eurowood Werks more than 12 years ago after retiring from a career in insurance. My studio specializes in the production of bowls, platters and hollow forms. The majority of my current artistic work centers on the exploration of fifth century Grecian water and wine vessels. Particular attention is paid to the visual and tactile details in each piece, striving for a graceful and harmonious balance in the finished form.

Extensive use of bowl centre saver systems in my bowl turning production allows me to save several bowls from a single bowl blank. This is in keeping with my overall goal of conservation and respect for the timbers used. I regularly feature local storm damage and salvaged woods in both my functional and artistic works. The majority of the timber I use in my studio would have otherwise gone into a landfill. It's important to me to conserve our natural resources and I prefer salvaged timber whenever possible for my woodturning projects.

I'm a prolific writer on various woodturning subjects and I've had articles published in more than 78 countries around the world. My articles have appeared in local, national, and international publications and on the Internet. I was a regular featured writer for the Guild of Master Craftsman’s "Woodturning" magazine published in London, England for several years.

I'm also the author of an internationally popular educational series for woodturners titled “Woodturning with Steven D. Russell.” This series currently includes two eBooks and three DVD videos. I'm active on numerous Internet based woodturning newsgroups and woodturning websites. I also demonstrated woodturning techniques for “The Woodworking Shows” for five years as a master woodturner. In the twelve years of my studio, I've performed more than 1,764 demonstrations throughout the United States. In addition to woodturning, I'm actively involved in product, tool and machinery testing for numerous woodturning related manufacturers around the world.

These days my schedule is so hectic that there is little time for anything that's not related to woodturning, but I'm also actively involved in the Mercedes-Benz Club America having served on the national board of directors as the South-Central Regional Director for several years. I've also held offices in the local Houston Section of MBCA, including President, newsletter editor and board member.

My wife and I enjoy traveling to Hawaii (we've been three times in the last three years) and plan to retire there in a few years where I will build my dream studio in the Up Country mountains of Maui.
