SW, welcome to LumberJocks. Curious name and picture! What’s behind both? Looks like you are on a boat??? Didn’t think you needed a rocking chair on a boat (LOL).

Thanks Don,

The picture is just a reminder of what I’d rather be doing, and yeah, the name is a different one. Just popped into my head for a unique user name.

Well, you can get boating out of your system, but it will take almost a lifetime.

I owned a 30’ sailboat in Vancouver. In fact the potential for more sailing was one of the attractions of moving to Australia. What I didn’t know then, was that Melbourne isn’t my idea of good sailing. Sydney would have been much better, but there are few places in the world that can match the Canadian Gulf Islands or their counterpart, the San Jan Islands.

I do a little sailing here from time-to-time, but woodworking has squeezed out this passion.

Don, I was fortunate enough to jump around the Florida Keys, Virgin Islands for a while, and got the seas in my veins. But sadly I’m stuck in Eastern Montana now, and there is no salt water in sight. But the woodworking is very nice, and can help as a distraction to everday life when the real world is grinding me down. Next time you are sailing around, remember that there are those of us that are less fortunate, and say a little prayer for the land-locked guys like me.

SW, my brother lives in Dripping Springs TX. That’s a few hours from the Gulf Coast. The reason I mention this is because he is even more of a boating nut that I ever was. He travels to Vancouver every year where he takes is cruiser up the inside passage to Alaska and back. Before he retired, he was an executive in the oils business which took him to postings all around the world. He’s had the privilege of sailing in some of the most beautiful places, but in the end chose the British Columbia/Alaska coast. (If you check out my blog – link below – you will see some pictures of his boat and travels).
