Someone asked me to post this video on this site, so here we go. It is my idea of how to sharpen a cabinet scraper. If I am all wet, please let me know.

Skip,
Nice video and instruction. I like the tip on honing with some wet/dry sand paper. I’ve generally honed my scraper with a water stone after every few of turns of a new burr. I’ll have to give the sand paper method a try!

Great video, thanks for sharing it with us!
The only difference between what you did and what I was taught is that after squaring the edge, I put the scraper down flat on the bench and run the burnisher over the scraper a few times, holding it level (I rub some oil on the scraper first). What this does is it makes “bat ears” on both sides of the scraper – a burr that is parallel to the flat face. Then I put the scraper in the vise and push those bat ears down by running the burnisher over it at a 5-degree or 10-degree angle (just enough so that I don’t hit the other bat ear).
Your way is much quicker, and looks like it does the trick just fine. I think the way I was taught makes bigger burrs for scraping, but takes longer to do. In the end, maybe it’s the same difference as to time invested.

Skip,
This is a nice video. I have tended to struggle with getting a good edge on my scrapers. But I will try your process and see if it improves my technique.
You produced an informative video that is clear and easy to follow.
Well done.

Thanks Skip.
I have just started using a scraper and when I am able to get my scraper sharpened just right, it is a great tool.
Your video is informative and gives me some ideas of how I might improve my sharpening. I find watching a video along with the narrative fits my learning style.
Thanks for your effort in producing the video and sharing your methods.

Thanks skip, with a thousand gadgets on the market to do that work, I’m trying your method. Great video and clear details. I want to use a scraper more but the one I have is dull – so I’m off to the shop to try this out as soon as I get the chance!
