I’ve been fortunate to have a woodshop most of my liife. The first foto even has the shop bench I remember my Dad making almost 60 years ago.
Last year we moved into a new house that had a very open basement. In fact, the rest of the house belongs to my wife but the shop is mine. I’ve taken about a 1000 feet of the basement for my shop.
The most important thing I did with this new shop was paint the floor with epoxy. It is the greatest way to diminish dust. The second most important thing was the shop vacuum.
The greatest improvement over my other shop was installing T-8 fluorescent lights, with 3500 rating (That’s an 835 in T-8 ratings) I’m told that’s pretty close to daylight. There is also no warm up time liike the T-12’s and no hum.
The work table in the middle is a torsion box and it was planned so that the middle could be used for assembly of large projects.

Beautiful shop Lee. Nicely organized and plenty of room. Great setup for the table saw too. Thanks for showing.

I like it… Here in Utah Basements are such an integral part of our living area that most would not allow a shop in the basement. I sell homes and in my 13 year career have only seen 2 basement shops. In the past (the past 2 years have seen dramatic increases in property value) it was not too expensive to just build one but those days I think are over… I like that you put that the epoxy floor was a first and a must.. Makes me feel better about it because I just put one in my shop and am waiting for it to fully cure.

I like the “under the stairs” storage (that is what I see, yes?)
Too bad I can’t get to my stairs – I’d have to go through a cement wall and a stone foundation.

That’s one neat shop! I like the wall for designing. You did a great job of setting it up.

Is that a dry-erase wall you have with all of the sketches? I need something big to put ideas on so that I can visualize and then break them down. Cool shop!

Absolutely. That is one of the reasons I used whiteboard. The other is that it reflects the light better.
Actually, it may not be dy-erase but just whiteboard.

This is a gorgeous shop. It is spacious, well organized and you have enough tools to get some serious work done. I would like to work in a set-up like this.

This shop is way too clean. What’s up with that? Just kidding. My basement shop is close to the same size. I have T8/3500’s also and wouldn’t trade them for anything. I need to paint my walls before I do the epoxy floor thing.
