I have been in the Navy for over 20 years now and still love it. I just got back from my 11th deployment in Iraq and just got the bug to start woodworking for some reason. Right now just reading a lot of books and websites to gather information before buying tools. I found this site and feel this is the one for me. I am about as green as they come so I will be watching and learning as much as I can from the experts who have been doing this for years.

Hi all. I am new to woodworking. Actually I am still reading a lot of books and watching a lot of shows to gather information on what to buy and not buy. I dont know what triggered this, but all of a sudden I am hooked. I look at some of the projects that have been posted and am trying to figure out how some of this stuff was done. Great material here on this site and I love reading the feedback. Hopefully I can figure out how to get around this site and see some project plans if there are any.

Welcome to Lumberjocks. Glad to have you aboard.
Not a lot of project plans here. Mostly you see something and ask the builder for the measurements and then go to it.
At least that will be the way with me.
I’m more than happy to give you help with plans of my creations.

Thanks for the welcome. I really am excited to get started with some projects. I have quite a few kids (all girls) and I want to start with something like a playhouse in the backyard or playground in the backyard before getting into furniture making for the home. All I know is what I have read and watched on TV. Nothing like learning by getting my hands dirty.

Wow this is already the best website I have seen and I am glad already I joined. I will be getting quite a few tools for the X-Mas season and hopefully I will get the ones I need and not go overboard on the ones I dont need. If anyone has any comments on some of these I would appreciate it. I plan on getting a combo jointer and planer, 10” Ryobi table saw (I figured I didnt need anything bigger and for a starter this might do the job for me. I am looking aroun still though), plunge router, drill press, 18V drill, orbit sander, bunch of drill bits, etc…. I migt be over doing it, but I feel that some of the projects I want to start into need a lot of these so I might as well get going with it. Exactly what voltage or “extra stuff” these do is unknown to me right now. Any suggestions is greatly appreciated. Happy Thanksgiving!!!

Welcome to Lumberjocks. The projects are an inspiration, the information is priceless and the people are supportive. The only problem is, the site can get addictive.
God Bless
