It's nice to be here

I just posted my first project, and I wanted to say thanks to those who have added positive comments…even negative is ok, as long as it’s constructive. This seems to be a place where I can find anything from philosophy to sawdust. That’s great on both counts.
I’ve already learned some valuable info about glues that helped me in my project. I’m looking forward to more. By the way, in answer to a couple of questions in the comments, I used maple from Home Depot..whatever kind they get, and it made me set my sights on getting a planer and finding other sources of wood, and it’s finished with a mahogony penetrating oil stain, and a sprayed on polyurethane varnish (compressor & finishing gun – not aerosol), and the top was rubbed out with an automotive finishing DA sander with 1000 grit pad, then 2000 grit, then 3M rubbing compound with a foam pad. It took about 15 minutes. I have some experience in auto paint work, so I used that equipment since I had it handy. The top came out like glass, by the way. Not being a pro, I’m pretty simplistic in my products, at least so far. Maybe I’ll learn more here on that issue, too. Happy holidays to all!. -SST (which, by the way, stands for shopsmithtom)
