Ouch, again

Well, the last time I saw fit to do the blog thing (you can tell I’m not a big blogger…just check back) was because I decided to see which was tougher, my thumb or my table saw blade. Now, granted, it’s only an old 10ER shopsmith, but it was still tougher than my thumb. In fact, it wasn’t even a fair fight.
Now I’m back, a mere 119 days later to blog my little buns off.
It seems that the only time I have anything to say, it’s when I hurt myself. Oh well, many writers write out of some sort of inner pain…I do it as a result of outer pain. (maybe not as much fun) It seems that I keep putting my hand in where it doesn’t belong. At least this time I didn’t have a run in with a power tool. Nope, this time it was a fish hook.
It seems I had this Muskie size jointed Pikie Minnow (you fishermen might know what I’m talking about) hanging in my boathouse at the corner of a shelf, and I reached past it to get something and, by losing focus (gee, just like the table saw incident) I caught one of the treble hooks and drove it deep into my index finger.(hence the “ouch” title…did anybody wince then they read that?)
And what (as my wife so often would say) have we learned from this experience?
1) Don’t leave lures hanging around
2) DON’T LOSE FOCUS!!!!!!!!
3) Refer to rule# 2 often!
And now, since I have your attention, a short poem:

Ten (an original poem by Shopsmithtom)

I started out with ten,
8 fingers and two thumbies,
I followed the rules
when I played with tools
Cause reckless is for dummies.
I built a shelf
all by my self,
Wore safety glasses
during table saw passes,
(like we all learned to do
in woodworking classes)
And when I was done
I looked at my hands
and then I looked again…
And whadda ya know know,
when the counting was done,
I still had the original ten.

There. My blogging’s done for now. And you even got a poem out if it this time. -SST

OUCHIE.

I’m not sure what is worse—getting a hook in the finger or taking it out again!!

Got your tetanus shots up to date?? Did you put away all of the lures/tackle/hooks so no more surprises? Did you…. oh I’ll leave the rest of the list for your wife to go through.

Great poem. Ouch, is right! I had a speck wiggle while I tried to get the hook out and if it weren’t for the fact that the hook point went into my finger nail, the jerk of the fish would have sunk that hook through my finger. Whew! It was a close one. I hope you heal well.
