Well I had my first wood working accident yesterday. I was cutting a thin strip of wood on my tablesaw and it kicked back and pulled my fingers on my left hand into the blade. Thank god it only nicked the tips of two of my fingers. Well it just goes to show no matter how careful you are accidents still do happen. I was useing a push stick and holding the stock up aguenst the fence with another bit of wood and it still got me. So I guess to all of you out there that read this, Please make sure you are very very careful. I was lucky this time.

Dang Dave….. That was lucky! I lost my right index finger while in the service but they were able to reattach it. Scared the heck out of you didn’t it?

I have to agree, you can take all the safety precautions and still accidents happen. Glad to hear it wasn’t serious.
My last trip to the emergency room was a result of an eye injury. I spent an entire day fabricating and welding a bumper on a large delivery truck. I wore my safety glasses the entire time I was working.
After it was all done and painted, the tools cleaned up and put away, and just taking one last look (admiring my work), the wind blew. Out from somewhere came a sliver of metal which promptly ended up in my eye.
The emergency room doc started to lecture me on safety. I just bit my tongue and let him make his speech.

Correct me if I’m wrong but you were reaching around and BEHIND the blade when this happened weren’t you? Kickback and left hand, boom gotcha. Glad to hear it wasn’t serious. NEVER do that again. On a table saw never reach behind the cutting edge ever period. I’m a carpenter and I spend days going white just seeing this happen over and over . . .

The worst eye accident I ever had was stabbing myself in the eye with the earpieces of my safety glasses putting them on. Only broke a blood vessel in my eye but it turned all red and every time some one asked what happened I had to tell them that I poked myself in the eye putting on my safety glasses . . .not a good look.
