That’s dirty? That’s a great shop! The lumber storage under the bench is a good idea and must add even greater stability to the bench. It looks like a worthy bunch of tools. I love the TS and the big planer. Thanks for posting the pics!

The lumber ended up under the workbench only because I had no other place to put it! There are lumber racks on the wall near the ceiling and an adjacent room has another wall loaded from floor to ceiling. The bench probably weighs in at about 300 lbs by itself and is very stable. I had the wood stored in the garage for a while but with the summer months I feared the high temp and humidity in the garage would warp and cup it. So under the bench it went. I plan eventually to add a cabinet under the bench but first I need to put the wood to good use. I got a mix of 7/8 S2S birch, beech, ash, and oak, maybe 1200 bf or so, from a h/w floor mill shop that went out of business, and 600 bf 5/4 of birch from a cabinet maker that lost an client. Good prices so I had to take get it while I could. Sometimes you can get a good buy in craigslist but there most people are trying to unload construction or PT lumber or finished h/w flooring though they claim they are selling h/w lumber. But if you are careful and make sure you see a pic before driving all over the place you can get some really good deals. Not always easy to convince the wife I need more wood, though.

I was going to say a nice & Tidy workshop, but if you think it is untidy, then you are not working hard enough.

I clean my shop quickly “nearly” every night or after finishing a stage of work – I have to its too small otherwise, then once evey two weeks the doors are opened, the repirator in on and the compressed air is let loose blowin ALL the excess dust ouside.

YOU CAN NEVER HAVE ENOUGH WOOD – I have the same problem with my wife, until she wants something, then I can never find the right piece fore her – so I have to get more wood, then she is happy, and I am happy.

Outside I have a 6’ x 8’ x 21’ storeage shed for lumber which has been dried but is waiting to be brought inside, it sits at about 14% and takes a month or two to come back down to 8%.

I think I have about 1800 bf inside, 2300 bf outside – I am going to cut some trees later this year, to set to one side for the next 3 or 4 years, mainly Birch, Aspen, Alder and Cherry – 4” – 16/4 takes a long time to dry. If I can find anything else intesting, then I set that aside for a special project.

You are producing some nice projects from your shop – keep up the good work.

You might have too much wood for this, but I found that those hanging supports from Lee Valley (the ones made of 1/4” thich metal rod) are great. I have 2 sets of them hanging down from the rafters and I absolutely PACKED them with my wood. They’re fairly cheap to buy and easy to set up, too.

Hi Ron,

You have a very nice shop and a wonderful set to tools to play with. I love your tablesaw. You obviously have a need either for some more lumber storage or to get some projects completed but the bench serves as a useful storage area for the lumber (I am currently using my assembly table and miter bench for the same purpose).
