I am in the process of converting a former horse barn into my woodwhop. It is 32’ x 45’ with a full hay loft above. 10’-6” to the bottom of the trusses, so I have plenty of ceiling height for tall stuff. The former tack room (10’ x 14’) will be my office. I plan to have a carving and model studio up there, but that is a few years down the road.
So far I have removed the stalls, framed in one of the stall doors, converted the other 3 stall doors into windows, and inlarged the other 3 windows. I have installed the lighting, and finished the electrical work, and I have started the insulation.
I have changed the pictures of the Barn/Shop again. The new side views show the window and door changes I have made. The passage door you can see in the second picture is into what will be my office. I still need to build the doors for my “utility closet”, actually the place where my furnace and aircompressor are.
I ordered a workbench from Lie-Neilson last August. I got to pick it up in May. My wife took a picture of me playing with it after we put it together. You can see my shop dogs, nearest one is Simba AKA as Buddy Boy and the one by me is Babe AKA Baby Girl. For some reason, they insist on going out the the shop with me every day.

Please keep posting pictures of the shop once it takes its “definitive” form.
It also woild be very nice if you blog about the barn conversion and show us some progress shots…
I’m very interested as it sure has lots of potential for being a great shop.

Beautiful place you have there. Love the space you have in the barn. I’m not so sure that I would want to be there in the snow, but I can’t wait to see what you do with it.

Great conversion Ric. It looks like one side has aged differently than the other side. Was there any finish on the wall wood?

Karson,
The former owners only finished the sides of the barn that faced the house and road. So the answer to your question is yes and no! The front and left side were sprayed with a natural colored weather protector from Behr, the back and right side have no finish other than time. After I get the siding finished I will have to redo the whole barn, but that will have to wait for next summer.

What a great looking shop Ric. I would love to have something like that as my shop.
Maybe you can add a potbelly stove to heat the shop. A good way to get rid of the scraps.
