Location: East Greenwich, Rhode Island
Website:

I'm a full-time student at Reed College, entering my Sophomore year in Fall 08. At home this summer I am joining my father, Paul Crabb, in setting up a shop for refinishing and restoring antique furniture--a trade he is an expert in--as well as developing a line of furniture of his own. Meanwhile I'll steal scraps :) and I plan to build little items here and there while I learn the trade from my father and practice some chip carving. My projects will probably be decorative boxes and other small items for the most part, basswood mixed with hardwoods since the former is great carving material and the latter is too beautiful not to incorporate.

I'm in love with the sight, smell, color, and texture of hard woods, and can't wait until I'm adept enough to scrounge up some of my own and use it to make furniture, which is what I'm really after.

It will be wonderful getting to know you all! I've spent hours tonight looking at pieces in the projects gallery, as well as the comments, and I've learned a ton already! I hope to learn a lot from being a member here, and what I learn I'll "pay forward" down the line, of course.

Regards,

Rex

Thank you all for the warm welcomes!

I’m my father’s trainee in craftsmanship. He’s been out of touch with his profession for awhile, and though we’ve made a few small household projects along the way he largely hasn’t taught me the bulk of his knowledge of woodworking.

I’ll be posting things that I create as I make them and learn from magazines and of course the old pro. I have already learned a lot from crafters on LJ, having gone through 40 pages of posted projects. There’s some awe inspiring stuff here!

Thanks again for the welcomes, and can’t wait to get to know you all better!

Regards,

Rex

Welcome to Lumberjocks. The projects are an inspiration, the information is priceless and the people are supportive. The only problem is, the site can get addictive.

God Bless
