It is tight but you do have space to work. It is cozy but you have the tools you need to get the job done.

It can be slightly claustrophobic, but as long as I keep things tidy, it works. In other words, I have to learn not to be a slob. Rough cutting sheet goods has to be done out on the deck, and large projects will probably have to be assembled in another room.

The upside is that my tools stay in a climate-controlled environment (and so do I!) and I’m spared the expense and time of building a stand-alone shop and getting power to it.

i started out with a 10×12 shop, now ive got a 10×28 foot shop, its challenging to work in a tight area, but it can be done. by the way i got married in kiln, ms last year.

It’s a small world. Howdy, neighbor!

Years ago, I had my shop in a 1-car garage, then a standalone 12×24 building. For several years, I really had no shop—set up the Workmate on the back porch as needed. I don’t think I’d have even tried this location if I hadn’t started getting into hand tools. They take up less space, and they’re QUIET.

A small shop, but looks like you are off to a good start. What projects have you done? What projects would like to do? What is the most common type of trees that grow down in your part of the country?

So far in this shop, I’ve mostly been working on the shop itself. In the past, I’ve done some bookcases and side tables of varying quality. This year’s list is mostly honey-do projects: a sideboard (currently planned as more-or-less MIssion style) , a writing desk for LOML, and yet more bookcases.

Around here, pine and oak are super prevalent. I have oak, red maple, and pecan air drying right now. Some of the oak’s been drying for a year or so and I’ve brought iit into the shop to finish drying (“dry” is a relative term in this climate!)

In updatubg the tool list, I started thinking that it probably bores the pants off of anybody who reads it. It does amuse me, though, to notice how often I’m updating it lately.

I am just moving out of my 8’ x 12’ shop and into a new and HUGE 12’ x 20’. So I know what it’s like.

I agree through, if you plan ahead and work tidy, you CAN get things done.
