A freind of my mom’s has decided to start using a computer to comunicate with her family. Enaine is in her 80’s and has never user a computer before. I have been helping her along with tutoring lessions and equipment installation. I help select a laptop and Multi function printer for her. She want to put the computer in her small sitting/TV room. Her old desk that she has in that room is wholy unsuted for computer use.
So, I started looking for a suteable desk for her. The only thing that I found that was not too large was a partical-board, black painted but the problem was that the desk was backwards of what she needed.
Now I am building a desk for her.
Here is a computer rendering of what I am building.

Randy,
This looks pretty good. I like the design you have come up with.
Congratulations to Elaine as well for wanting to learn something new. My MIL is 80 and there is absolutely no way she would be willing to try something like this. It was a major step just to get her to add an answering machine to her telephone.

Nice design, have you allowed for power plugs, lamps and holes for the network cable? My Mom bought a particle board special for her desk (she is in her 70s) and although it was supposed to be a computer desk there were no holes for the necessary cables. You may need to look around for a comfortable chair for her as well, depending on how long she can tolerate sitting in one position.

I should do something like this for my wife, she would love it. Elaine sounds like a great lady learning computers at 80 is inspirational.

Maybe you can find a good design at the Northwest Fine Woodworking Institute. They have plenty of furniture designs. Hank Hollzer has some great designs does’nt he.

Hi,
Thanks for all the comments.
The project is now finished and Elain is very happy with it.
As you can see it fits in the corner under the window and does not block the register.
