Things to do to get wood for woodworking

Where are you at in Quebec.

Our family came from Ireland and settled in Arundel and Weir Quebec many years ago.

My great-great grandfather bled to death, after hitting his leg with an Axe while cutting timber in winter. He got on his horse and made it home, but no one was there.

What species of wood are you cutting?

I live in a village called Harrington Harbour see pic

do a search under that name and you will see a bit more info. I cut spruce and fir and a small amount of birch

This is really great, I’m excited about reading your blog story here. And the fact that you also work with your wife out there in the woods, my wife and I have been working together in the woods for many-many years now, whenever she can get out of the office in our house. Like today, we both worked the woods together….you might say, we have each others back in sight at all times.

Well starting to “lay” the foundation for the new shop.Most people pour a slab, dig a basement, or clean out the garage. I have to do things alittle differently.

First I wait for low tide. Then I start building cribwork. Fasten this to the rock and then when the tide rises and I can’t work the wood I bring rocks to fill the cribs. My shop will have water under it during high tide

Outside side of Building will sit on inside row of 8×8. Other white shed is to be taken down this coming spring

So where does the ice get to in winter? It looks like some good size rocks are available all over the shore line.

ok here goes. If you look at the second pic the bridge with the rail on it runs out to a crib that I tie my boat to . I can tie up there in all but the lowest tides. The ice freezes about a foot under that bridge. During fall storms this bridge can cover at the very highest tides. When I start rocking the cribs I will post more pics.
