Free wood source

Oh My : Does he live near VT ? I scrunch any scraps I can find but most of mine is pine !! Lucky you ! I watch for new houses going up and stop by to see what they do with scraps, usually come away with some. Don`t pay to be bashful ! LOL.

Hmmm, this sounds like really good advice. I have to find my Yellow Pages now and locate all the close installers! Come to think of it there is a custom cabinet place just a few km over…I should probably take a run over there.

I had about 100’ left over from doing my upper living area. I have used them to make molding and picture frames. The only difficulty I have had with them is removing the finish. I didn’t not want to run this through my planer so I used a belt sander to remove it. It takes some effort but as you said you end up with some nice lumber to work with.

I just found another source. A company that makes florring and stair parts stacks all their cutoffs on pallets 42×42x36 & sells them for firewood. $25!! I got a pallet of 1-3/4”x 3-1/2” red oak up to 22”. Maybe 1/2 of it is firewood—knots & cracks, but plenty of great wood for smalller projects. They also do walnut & some cherry—I’ve got a request in for a call when they run those woods. Just wish they ran white oak!
