Great find on the burls there, but without any photos it’s kind of hard to see what your talking about….so why not include some photos and then we, can give you, our many opinions. Actually I just want to ‘slabber’ some over your great find….and,

As much as I would hate to say this you may have to crank up the chainsaw.

It depends what you want to use it for. I thing Jeff has a good option but there is always someone that will have a bandsaw. you could ask any Jocks nearby to help out. With a treasure like that I would think pretty hard about what the end result would be. Lots of luck.

I just added pictures of the burls, and I still have no idea what to make, Im thinking about sliceing the first couple of 2 inch thick pieces out of the faces and turning bowls out of the remanders. A friend sugested a bow saw at less than 10 bucks for the sliceing.

Just noticed you’re from Washington!

I’m not sure how I’d cut them…I’d probably wait til I had the inspiration of what I wanted to make out of them beforehand. But, that may take another fifty years…

That said, it does look like you have the makings for a couple of small live edge table tops if you slab off the top faces of each of the burls. You could also make some interesting door panels out of them (for small cases), by cutting thick enough to resaw for bookmatched pieces. You could use the slabs for a series of drawer faces that would have a contiguous grain pattern. Possibilities are endless. I like your idea of saving some stock for bowls.

I don’t think a bow saw’s gonna do it. You’d run into the frame of the saw and couldn’t get through the entire width. Though you could try coming from both sides and you might just be able to do it, depending upon the size of the saw you use!
