A nice set up Paul. Sounds like you got the beginnings of a great shop.

Did you make that drafting table/cabinet?

Actually the drafting table/cabinet is an atlas stand that I purchased at the school system surplus auction. It has six large flat slide out trays on which atlases were stored beneath the top. I made drawer boxes and cut up some old cabinet doors for the drawer fronts. I merely sat the “drawers” on the flat trays, secured them to the trays with screws and bingo! I store owner’s manuals in the top drawer and cabinet hardware, screws, naills, etc in compartmentalized drawers beneath. I keep the plans or notes for whatever project I’m working on out on top. Until I was gifted with an old Craftsman lathe and large bench for Christmas, it sat across from the bench next to my tool cabinet. That still would be the best place for it, but sometimes compromises are necessary when more “stuff” arrives in the shop. I added some salvaged casters to the legs so it can moved easily for a car, if necessary. And I may experiment by occasionally bringing it around beside the bench when I’m working, too. I kinda like not having an open magazine or notebook on my bench when I’m working.

That’s a nice spot. Thanks for showing it. I like the sawdust on the floor!

Paul,

You have a nice shop there. I really like seeing some sawdust on the floor of shop posts. This makes the shop look like it is being used. You have some decent tools to work with as well.

Thanks for the post.

The bench looks like an older cabinet to which a top was added. Are those end panels quartersawn white oak? And are the drawer handles wooden? It’s hard for me to tell from the photo. Looks like there might be a lot of interesting stories surrounding that bench. I like it.

I like the bench & the giant cabinets. Got to build some cabinets for the shop! That bench looks like a great place to work on something. Thanks for the pics.
