Part 1: #1
I’ve downloaded the plans. Thinking and visioning possibilities. I see two contrasting woods and inlays instead of negative spaces.
Part 2: Resisting the Urge to Plunge In
Went to the hardwood yard in the big city today for more red oak and poplar for my present projects (little side trip in the work day) and also admired the stack of Honduras mahogany and the stack of black walnut. Still not sure of what wood to use. So I was strong and left the mahogany and walnut there for now.
Part 3: Better Stop Thinking and Start Doing
Yes, I successfully resisted the urge to jump in. But, is the deadline now just three weeks away? I have this sometimes unfortunate quirk in my personality that treats thinking about what to do, and making plans for what to do, in my head, as a quantitative and material act. That’s why I’ve read dozens of great books containing dozens of great ideas on a whole range of subjects but I have never put them to work outside my head. Part 4: Progress
Went to the office for a couple of hours this morning and decided that I could take today as my day off. Went straight to the shop and got started on my entry in the challenge. 10:00 a.m. to 9:00 p.m. with short breaks for lunch, school pick-up and supper. Progress!
Part 5: Close!
I used red oak with walnut pegs. Chose and applied the stain last night. I’ve been “playing” with design on this project. Kind of creating as I go. (I know. I know. I need to buy a sketch pad.) So, as you can imagine, this has been one of those projects where I say to myself, “Well, I won’t do that again.” (multiple times) But it’s been fun! It’s turning out “okay” but Wow!, I’m enjoying the other entries! IR...
