I haven't died ...

Been busy making all sorts of things, and as they get finished I’ll post them. Recently I realized that my sled was 1/16th inch out of square. Thinking that it was the blade i made sure it was perfectly square to the fence. After making sure the fence was quare, i measured the sled and realized that 1/16th of an inch can make a horrific difference on how things glue up. So i went to work on a new sled. The old sled (posted) was a beginners sled, and needed improvement. No wonder I can make any money, the sled is off.

The new sled is being shown in progress as I square the fence, the board, the dado, and the blade..

As I complete this I’ll post the finished project. I also have a few surprises in store. A Real treat for you old timers.

Good to hear your going strong. Looking forward to making my way back down there to see some of these things in person.

One of the things is a mallet showcased in the last issue of shop notes. Should be finished by the time you arrive.

Michael, good to see you are still kicking.

I have one question concerning your squaring process. Is your square square? Carpenter squares are notorious for not being dead accurate. When’s the last time you found a square wall in a house? LOL.

Seriously, it’s very easy to test your framing square for accuracy. If you’ve ever dropped it, it may be out. Lay it on a sheet of ply, the sort end against one edge. Draw a line the full length of the long arm. Now flip the square with the same short arm against the edge and the long arm against the line just drawn. Draw another line. The second line should be exactly where the first line was. If it deviates away along the length of the line, your square is not accurate.
