Peace and Harmony (I hope!!) #1: A new start as a pro

no previous part Part 1 of Peace and Harmony (I hope!!) series no next part

Today was the last day of my career as a Sr. Quality Engineer for a medical device manufacturer. This day has been a long time time coming, and it brought up a lot of mixed emotions.
I am now a professional in the field of furniture repair and restoration. My son Tommy and I have gone into business together and purchased a Furniture Medic franchise.
We will be traveling to Memphis in June for training, and our shingle goes up June 23.
Wish us luck!

congradulations and I hope that everything works out the way you and your son imagine. I am sure that he is equally excited. I have a full time job as an equipment oprerator ( excavator) and started a custom cabinetry side buisness. My father decided to suprise me the other day with a new 17” bandsaw. I am 39 and I still got choaked up know that my father had that much faith in me.

It is nice to see when some gets to live their dream. Doing it with your son is the icing on the cake. I wish you good health and many happy years with your new life.

Good luck, Myron. It’s one thing to make a living at something, but something else to be doing it at something you really enjoy doing.

Good luck Myron. You and your son are taking a bold step but risk brings it own reward. You will be able to do what you want now rather than what you have to. I wish you both nothing but the best.

Congrats Myron. I wish you and your son the best. While in Memphis I highly suggest you find some local BBQ joints. I traveled there quite a bit a few years back and it’s very good.

Best wishes Myron! You’ll have to let us know what you think of the training. I often thought of signing up for it. I just can’t seem to let go of the day job though. My wife like the regular paycheck and the benifits. I look forward to the day that my brother and I can open our own shop, probably when I retire.

Congratulations. I work in Software Quality Assurance and did a stint at a medical device manufacturer. I’m sure you are glad to trade that stress for a possibly much more rewarding profession that still requires attention to detail. Best of luck to you and your son! Keep us posted and follow the age advice of Dennis. You lucky devil…

Quite a change Myron. Probably one for the better and I’m sure you’ll do fine. The first thing I had to do when I started my business was learn to relax, I hope you’ll be able to do the same so you can enjoy your new venture. Best of Luck!

Wishing you the best of luck! I find it very satisfying and humbling to mend a high-quality piece of furniture that was around long before I was, so that it can continue it’s useful life long after I am gone.

Myron, if they make you read it—-that is GREAT. Sounds like a great training ground – there are some great lessons to be observed in the book…Another good read you may enjoy is Chicken Soup for the Entrepeneur—-fun read with a few useful thoughts.

Again best of luck, it is an exciting time when you embark upon this new journey. There is an old quote I give to new business owners:

Nothing’s better than the wind to your back, the sun in front of you, and your friends beside you – HAPPY Sailing on the Sea of Joy!
