Part 1: The "Why" behind the New Shed
Rick and i already have 3 sheds on the property (holding gardening tools, lawnmowers, snowblower, bikes etc). Life is good. But now we have a new need. My daughter has been living here while her husband lives 3 hours away due to his job. This contract has come to an end and now, while he looks for a new job and the do a house search, they will be living here and that means added storage needs. Originally they had talked about renting a storage unit, which would probably cost them $1500 ...
Part 2: Step 2 - the floor
on the weekend we built the floor of the shed, next to one already standing. The weather on the weekend was REALLY hot (someone said that it hit 36 C at one point). Then the weather was to change and rain was called for. We covered the floor with tarps and waited for the storm to come and go. Last night we wanted to put one wall up, while we had some extra bodies around to lift the finished result. Part 3: Step 3 - the joining wall
And so last night… in the freezing cold… we created the wall that would be joined to the existing shed area. We decided on using full sheets of aspenite for the wall which makes it 8’ high (on top of which will go the roof area and thus more storage! Rick, with his new job, has access to a big air gun—wooo hooo baby, did this make the job a lot easier and faster!! Part 4: Stage 4 more walls
This afternoon, we put up two more walls and hopefully tomorrow morning will complete the last wall which will be the double-doors. We have already decided where the lathe, table saw, and mitre saw will go once the kids move out and don’t need the storage space any longer. I suggested that we get another set of tools—one for the basement in the winter and one for the shed in the summer. That way we never have to move anything! :)
Part 5: The Roof
This past weekend provided us time to work on the roof of the shed. We have only a couple of weeks left before my son-in-law has to be out of his apartment and the storage stuff will either be in my hallways in the house – or in the shed!! The weekend also brought us HEAT and so we chose to work in the morning… avoid the heat in the middle of the day.. and return to work in the evening.
