A couple weeks ago, when we were having our few days of spring, Rick and I sat outside and were listening to the pinecones pop. Rick brought a couple seeds in and I stuck them in some dirt.
What to our surprise but rather quickly we had these popping up!
I’ll be transplanting them into better containers soon and then into the garden… Then, in, oh, say, 30 years, we can cut it down and build something with it!! :) Of course, Rick will be in his 90’s then and may not be able to swing the axe.. but we’ll figure something out :D

That’s a beautiful picture, nice photography there and a nice camera. I always love seeing new plant life spring up, it is my favorite time of year for that reason. I had to laugh, that’s how I get when I really get into something, everything reminds me of that, I laughed because you thought of having wood to cut to make something with. When I first started cross-stitching I kept thinking of an X, lol. That sure would be great if you get to actually use the wood from that tree because you are still up to woodworking at 90. I don’t have a good camera myself but hope to at some point.

it’s not the tools that you use, but what you do with what you have… and that pertains to anything I think.
re: the “X” isn’t it interesting how something starts standing out and you see it everywhere?? Life is pretty cool.

Neat photo Debbie,
We have a little longer wait than you, to see things sprouting.

Just get a long extension cord and use your scroll saw on the old tree.

I was surprised at finding the seedlings so quickly.
Dennis—that’s a great idea!! My mom had “trimmed” the tree so she could run the lawn mower under it easily. So now we have a 15 foot high tree with branches starting at 5 feet off the ground! I could make use of that 5 foot bare section

That storm you’re missing has made lots of new lakes where roads and houses were in these parts… the state highway (not even a stones throw from my backdoor) is closed due to a landslide. When I heard this on the radio this morning I could only picture my back 40 (a very very steep hill) covering half the road below (and me out a wall and backyard).
Fortunately there was no damage to my neighborhood, but I can’t drive down to see the damage, but perhaps not seeing it on the news must be a good thing.
The rivers are really high, definately making up for the lack of snow this winter, but I couldn’t bear to loose that wall again…
Great photo there… sure have a good close up lens!
