Table Challenge #3: First stages

Blog entry by MsDebbieP posted 526 days ago 488 reads 0 times favorited 70 comments Add to Favorites
« Part 2: My Legs Are Bothering Me Part 3 of Table Challenge series Part 4: Shapely Legs »

Martin has asked for blogs re: the big table challenge and I figured that since I am tracking the process of this “creation” I might as well follow the journey with some photos.

I re-read the rules to see if I was breaking any rules by posting the progress but I didn’t see anything that indicated that this was a “no-no” .. so here is the progress!

Photo 1: The Beginning
The Beginning
The table will be mostly willow of course (Hey, Chip – here’s my addiction of choice).
Rick and I “handpicked” a log from our firewood (translation: we went out in the cold weather and grabbed a log that looked like it would fit on the little ripper and ran back inside where it was warm).

Photo 2: First Cut
Little Ripper
Rick then ran the log through the little ripper to give me some pieces of board to work with.

Photo 3: Table Top
Table Top
I glued three pieces of board together to form the main part of the table top and then glued to pieces of end cuts to the sides, in order to 1) make it look like the Thorsen Table and 2) to give it that rustic look that I want to achieve.

Photo 4: Aprons
Aprons
(that’s what they are called, right?) I used the rough cut ends again for the aprons, keeping it to that rustic look.

I’m now waiting to figure out how to do the legs so I can put the top together….

Scottie,
I already did that. I cut 8 sticks and then I cut four more sticks and then I cut two more sticks.
Today I sanded 6 sticks and put oil on them.

Here they are Debbie:

Remember you just need to get picture link / URL / address (whatever they call it) – since Picasa doesn’t provide it easily on the picture page you need to use right click on the picture and then Copy image location – in Firefox.. I have no idea how is it in your Safari but should be similar. And then place that link between 2 exclamation marks. Step by step is in our How-tos.

Hope posting pictures directly is not braking Picasa terms but I thin you wanted to do right that ;)

Hm. I’d call hyperlink something that is linked to other www destination – it can be text or image for example. In this case we just need image location and some browsers and sites are using different terms for this – image url, image location, image web address, image link… so it can get confusing but in the end it’s simple, we just need image location, copy it and paste between the exclamation marks.

Hi Debbie;

I call it the miracle of wood when I think of the wonders of ‘wood art that you are now making. Also what a great ‘live edge’ there….

Thanks Debbie and keep having fun!
