I’m really excited about the upcoming LJ Picnic. Picnic blankets an LJ t-shirts are going to be everywhere!
This is such a great opportunity to Spread the Word. “Hello Woodworkers!!!”
I’m planning on writing our local paper to tell them where my picnic blanket is going to be. I hope that at least one or two woodworkers from the community will stop by.
There has been lots of talk lately about how to get the word out about LumberJocks.com—the best woodworking community in the world! Word of mouth is always the best way to inform people. We’ve also been discussing the use of LJ Business Cards. It would be a great way to end off a conversation—just hand them a card to remind them of where to look for us when they get to their computer.
Also, we are working on a Flyer for the upcoming Summer Woodworking Awards. This will also then be available for local distribution.
What are your thoughts? Would you use the cards/flyers? Any other suggestions?

Yes, Karson.
We want to prepare nice LJ.com cards that you can print as well as personalized ones.

Great idea…..
One card format should read across the bottom..
“Proud member of Lumberjocks.com . Where you can see our work and read of our commitment to quality” or something like that.
If the active members here each take the time to post a few flyers or cards at local lumber yards and hand out a few cards we should be able to drive membership considerably.
We could do some stealth marketing as well. How many of us have posted info about LJ on other forums we belong too. I used to go to some of the other forums…rare these days…but it would be a good way of getting the word out. Related forums as well. Like craigslist etc.., the announcement of the garden project woodworking challenge would be something that folks on many of the gardening sites…that also happen to be woodworkers…like me…would be interested in.

That’ll be great…then the pages in Pulse will scroll by every 10 minutes and we’ll miss everything! Just when I get happy in a small town, they go and build a Walmart. Hrmph.

As a teacher I have worked in very small schools and very large schools…the sense of community is very different…but it is up to us to keep the small sense of community while the site grows. There are ways to do it…mostly it is about our continuing the positive spirit…that is why I keep coming back each day (not to mention where debbie was this morning)...a growing community is a changing community…but with effort it can all be positive…
For my picnic—-I have to be in my back yard…since I just finished my picnic table…and I aint lugging it to the park….nor would I feel right about having my LJ Day Picnic on another picnic table!!!
Have a great day…

so who are you inviting to your backyard?? :)
I totally agree re: big school/small school.
So far, LumberJocks has doubled in size (and more) since I first joined, and the sense of community that we have has remained strong.
Way to go LJs :) :) :)
