I have been away for a while and things have changed.
My Wife and I celebrated our 20th and got away for a few days…Nice.
I was checking craigslist and found a baby grand piano for sale cheap. My wife has always wanted one but we have never been able to afford one. This one was for sale for $150. The owner started to restore it and found that it was way more than he could do and the quote to restore it was about $10,000.00 so he sold it to me.
I picked it up and started to work on it this weekend. I started by taking pictures and am thinking of bloging the whole process. It is a little intimidating but exciting.
I counitue to make some progress on the shop and hope to pick up more building supplies soon.

oh my this is going to be interesting!!!
$150… makes me wonder what condition it is in.. yikes!
We have an old piano (the one that I used when I was young)... something is broken in the frame or something.. some keys don’t work.. but I just can’t part with it. Memories.. and you can still tinkle out some tunes that are almost recognizable lol
I’m looking forward to following the progress

The plate is good and the soundboard has a crack that is easily repairible. The previous owner could not aford the cost of restoration.
I want to make sure that I do not divert too much money into the piano and not enough into the shop project.

So you’re going to restore a baby grand and build a shop, you say? I will be anxiously awaiting the progess of both.
By the way, congratulations on the 20th anniversary! We celebrated ours last year.

This will be a great blog to read…just remember though, at LJ if there aren’t pictures, it never happened.

Congrats on both the anniversary and the piano. You should definitely blog the progress on the restoration.

My wife took some pictures this weekend so I will try to post something tomorrow. The piano will take some time as my first priority will be to get the shop closed in before winter.
I only need 54 sheets of OSB!!
