New shop under construction #4: Door and drywall

« Part 3: Electrical and Plumbing are almost done. And look, a birthday surprise! Part 4 of New shop under construction series Part 5: The final inspection is done. Now it's all up to me. »

Things are moving along with the shop. The garage doors were installed a couple of days ago (although they forgot to order the strap hinge and handle hardware), and the drywall is up. Yesterday we spend all day painting the drywall with a tinted primer. The color is close but a little darker than the final color. I’ll put the paint on today. Tomorrow is big day! The electrician will finish all of his install – the lights (interior & exterior) all the outlets and switches and the electric company will be here to finish the 400amp upgrade. The HVAC guys will also finish installation of the Sanyo mini split ductless heat pump.

Very nice. How high are your ceilings? Whens the move-in date?

Tony,
The ceilings are 10’ high. Hopefully I’ll be able to start moving equipment in a couple of weeks.

Dang Loogie!!
This makes my basement shop look like the piece of cr@p it really is!
Half the time I’m down there my head is tilted to the side so I don’t wack my noggin on the pipes. Doesn’t look like you need to worry about that.

Mark,

This is looking real good. I am excited for you. To tell you the truth if I lived in maryland I would come on down and help you paint just to get you moved in quicker so I could see the completed workshop.:)

This is turning into a real nice shop.

Don’t be too down on your basement shop we all (or most) started out there and I’ve seen some very amazing and skilled work come out of small one room dimly lit shops. That being said this is the beginiing of one nice shop Loogie. I can hear your brain ticking working on the lay out.

Loogie,

That is a great looking shop. Mine is a little bigger in SF, but no upstairs for storage. Man that would be a huge help. I am looking forward to your completion as well. Always looking for good shop layout and tool storage ideas. I’m sure you’ll have a bunch of great ones.

The attic space is 14×30. It will be mostly used for storage and woodshop “overflow”.
