The outside of the shop is almost done all that’s left is to put the shutters and crown moulding on the front window and put the gutters on. The overhead doors won’t be installed until the drywall and paint are complete.
The electricians have been working at a good pace and the rough-in is all completed. The plumbing and electrical inspections should be today.
My 40th birthday is coming up soon. My shop has gone so far over budget that I informed my wife a month or so ago that I was eliminating the cupola in order to save some money. I got back from my last trip at about 1am and as I turned into my driveway my headlights moved across the shop and what did I see!! My wife bought me the cupola and weathervane for my birthday and had it installed by the builder while I was gone! What great present! The weathervane is a Pegasus and represents my flying and her love of horses.
I’m starting to get really excited about getting the shop set up. It shouldn’t be long now. After the inspections are done then the insulators should be here followed by the drywall crew.

Wow. I am getting excited as well. It is great to see this coming along so nicely. I am sure that the adrenaline is really starting to build.
Very rarely have I seen a project come in at or below budget so don’t worry about it (easy for me to say since it isn’t my money).
Do you have access to the space under the shop on the back side? And what are your plans for the attic space?
750 sf is plenty of room with which to work but it always seems that tools, jigs and shop furniture expand to fit the available space.
Keep the posts coming. As I said I am enjoying this as well.

Lookin’ sharp, Mark! I’ve been following your progress in earnest…keep the updates coming! Beautiful cupola…really makes a statement. My 40th’s coming up in a couple months…sounds like you’re gonna beat me there. Let me know how it works for you! :)

Scott,
The attic will just be storage for now. As for the basement, that’s where my little tractor will go and where I plan on doing vehicle maintenance and keeping all the bikes and lawn stuff. I moved the tractor and implements down there right away so that my wife could at least park indoors. Thanks for reading!

What a great shop! The weather vane really sets it off nicely as well.
It’s great having a spouse that supports our addiction isn’t it?

Loogie, just found this blog and this is exciting. The weather vane is really great. I go fly fishing up your way on the Gunpowder all the time. I’ll have to keep an eye out for that distinguishing feature. Can’t wait to see more of the shop and the projects you build in it.

This is great. You are a lucky man. I have to enjoy these dedicated shop blogs vicariously since I don’t have the space to build one.
