Les Hastings's Workshop

I re-married in June of 2005 after being divorced about fifteen years or so. Before that my home shop was just a small area in the basement of my old house. I’ve never really needed a home shop because of all the equipment I have access to whenever I needed at work. But after I married again we decided to sell both of our homes and purchase one together. Yea,,, you guessed we llooked for a home with a shop or enough land to build one. We ended up finding a house with a fairly new shop building built right out the back door.
The building is 24×38 with 8’ ceilings. There’s a concrete drive right up to it. It has a 16’ overhead door and a walk in door located on the front. One window on the side and another overhead door 8’ on the back end. Taller ceilings would of been nice but I’ll manage just fine.
Its taken until now 2 1/2 years later to get in some kind of working order. The building was raw inside, wich was a good thing. There was minimal wiring all ready in place. So the first thing I did was install a bigger breaker box, and lots of outlets all the way around and on the ceiling 110 and 220 both. Karol (My new wife by the way) insulated all the walls and the ceiling ( she is and has been a lot of help). I decided to cover all the walls with 7/16 OSB, mostly so I could hang things anywhere I choose to. I added pull down stairs to the attic and floored the center section and added lights for extra storage. Sheesh, glad that part is all done. Now let’s fill it up!

Current equipment Powermatic 66, 5 hp with excaliber slide, Rikon 18” bandsaw, 8” Grizzly jointer with spiral cutter head, Grizzly model G1495 lathe with a Vega Pro duplicator, Oneway 2418 lathe, Two Jet mini lathes (one has a beall masterpiece turner attached), Delta pin router, 16 speed floor drill press, Delta ind. 48” belt 12” disc sander, Two Shop Fox 3 hp shapers (Delta power feed on one), Performax 22-44 plus drumb sander, Bosch 5412 double bevel sliding miter saw, Newton B-100 two head horizontal drill, Hegner scroll saw, Legacy Ornamental Mill 1200 with all ass., Three dust collectors, 7 hp two stage 80 gallon air compressor, Small 54×54 vacume bag and pump, Jet spindle sander, Shop Fox mortiser, 15” powermatic planer, Hoffman dovetail machine X20, Matchmaker routing machine.

That’s all the major stuff, with bunches of extra’s ( half of which is at work most of the time)

Oh yea and its heated and air conditioned too.
