Fine Woodworking does ezee-feed review #2: Ezee-Feed Gone Wild?

« Part 1: Finally some exposure Part 2 of Fine Woodworking does ezee-feed review series no next part

Hi everyone;

Since a lot of LJ’s have been following the progress of my ezee-feed project, I wanted to share part of my day today. I hope no-one is put off by my posting this or thinks I’m bragging as I’m really in no position to brag, but it was a very special day for me. (I don’t have a lot of those since embarking on this project).

I’ve had a number of orders waiting for the first batch of Ezee-Feed units to come out of the factory, since I stopped making them. I know some people must have started wondering if they were even a real product!

The factory has missed a number of estimated shipping dates, and each time they did, I got put in a bad spot, as I would pass on the information to my customers. Each time I had to send emails out saying there was a delay made me feel like a liar.

I was requested to go to a pre shipment inspection this morning. The questions being asked by factory people over the phone had me wondering if they even looked at the drawings. I was even asked to bring sample installation kits with me so they could have samples of the hardware we used. High anxiety time for sure!

It was such a relief and what a great sight I was treated to when taken to the area they were working on my project.

I have been waiting to see this for what seems like an eternity, and sometimes doubted I would ever see it.

I was greeted with assembly lines full of ezee-feed units! What a feeling it was to see.

Thanks for letting me share this with you.

Lee,

I have been following the progress on your product for some time. Having an opportunity to create a product that is well thought out and is practical must be very exciting and not without its stresses.

Congratulations on bring your idea to market.

Lee,

Thanks for sharing this with the group. I can only imagine your excitement when you were shown the assembly line of your systems. It is wonderful to see this success, which you so rightly deserve, come your way. Congratulations and I hope that each of the units pictured is already sold.

Good luck Lee.

Great new Lee – I bet you are excited. Now, all you have left to do is pay for them and sell them :-)). Doesn’t get any easier, but you’ve got the most important part out of the way. Now you have something to sell – and it should do quite well, considering it is a tool that any large shop should have.

Hi guys;

I am really impressed with the good wishes and congratulations coming from all of you. I was concerned about seeming like I was just bragging, which really wasn’t the plan, I just needed to share it with friends who could understand.

As Cajunpen mentioned, all I have to do know is pay for them and sell them.

Dan; many of the units shown are sold. I’m not selling to retailers at this time.

Scott says: With God’s help all things are possible- even woodworking. Woodworking is not just a hobby, it is an (expletive deleted) expensive hobby, and it gets worse when you do what I did. I’ll never be able tell,you what the past few years have been like. Finances that used to be a non issue suddenly became unworkable.

I watched the bank come and take my shinny new corvette away for non payment, as well as my nice new thirty foot sport fishing boat.

The cabinet and construction business is operating at about thirty percent of normal, which means I am required to do a good bit of the of the work myself. Something I hadn’t had to do for many years.

My job required me to drive around to meeting in a nice car, wearing nice clothes,and going to meeting for a few hours a day. I would do a walk thru several jobsites and tell the site supervisor whet I wanted done and
by when.

My average day took me about three hours to finish,which included an hour for lunch.The ego stroking was fun as no matter who was at the job, I was the top dog. And The money was awesome.

Thats why today was such shock to me,one of the first few positive things to happen in an while. Faith has the power to take you a long way without promising anything in return, just a maybe. Today was a big maybe.

Dick I thank you for your very touching words.

I’m proud to have all of you as my friends!

He Lee
As a user of the Ezee feed I’m glad to see that you are now moving on to the next step. I had no idea the sacrifice that you’ve been going through however. When i met you and saw your shop, I was quite impressed and envious. I’m confident even if you have doubts that ezee feed will be a very succesful endeavor.

Hope to attend another picnic this summer.

Hi Mark;

The scheduled picnic is June 21 st I believe. I have to check that with Karson.

Your words are VERY much appreciated.

I’ll try to keep your confidence level in the product in mind. (I’ve had my doubts at times that I could stick it out).

Again, I have to say this is a great group of people, which would explain why we spend so much time here.

Wow…Lee…I felt great when I saw your great news yesterday…Now I am ecstatic knowing that your sacrifice to make this “a go” has been so hard in other ways…I cant wait to hear in a couple months: “Well guys…I am picking up my new corvette and running over to the factory for the 1,000th order comng off the assembly line…”

It will all work out in the end…and then I will come visit to take a boat ride…and I will pull up to the Vette in my pinto…lol…(I actually owned a pinto in high school—-I never got any dates…).

Kiddding aside…is there a web link that you have created that talks about the product???

Hi Matt;

Thank you for your comments.

The only place that talks about the product is the website. The video was done by our own David in his Folding Rule Program, and the site itself was built by Tom, (Mot). He didn’t like the site I built, saying it cheapened the product, and offered to make a more professional site. . (He was correct)

I owe much thanks to both of them.

In addition to the financial challenges, I also spent every night researching existing patents, (which I started out knowing nothing about), and there were thousands of them to be checked.

Then I studied how to get a patent, how to write the patent papers and claims so I was protected, and then drove to Virginia to file the provisional patent.

Then it was learn how to build a website, including the Pro Woodworking Tip site, which included writing all the articles and finding and loading the photo’s. (Getting close to three hundred pages I believe).

Most nights I went to bed at three or four in the morning, and sometimes I didn’t make it to bed at all.

It’s really been a crazy experience, but I learned a lot.
