I'm a mom of two who left a corporate marketing job at A&E and The History Channel two years ago to spend more time at home with my kids. In order to help make up for my lost salary, I started Mod Mom Furniture where I design and build modern, mid-century style kids' furniture. I'm a self-taught carpenter with a love for modern style (aka plywood furniture.)

I've checked out Lumberjocks many times for tips and advice and am thrilled to be part of the community.

My furniture is sold on my site, in few LA stores, and several modern furniture sites:

Kierstan,
What fun! I love the Owyn Box; no smushed little fingers.

It is a lot more fun in the shop than the board room! (I was also a corporate refugee.) Come to think of it, one could make the analogy that a shop IS a “board” room.

Good luck and welcome.

OK you need to put up some pictures of your workshop now—after seeing on your blog that you were cutting some wood in a dress.

I saw that you’re looking for a new table saw. I have the powermatic model 66 with the router table built in, and it’s pretty nice. I’m having some problems with the wheel that raises and lowers the blade, it just it s pain in the butt to turn it. I also added an aftermarket splitter. My garage is my workshop to the saw is on a mobile base.

Welcome to lumberjocks, this site is my new addiction. My wife is glad I’m addicted to this site and not some of the others that are out there.

Kiersten – nice to see you here on LJ. Your business is very inspiring – and I love your blog! I very much understand the 1940s garage workshop. That’s where I work as well – except I usually just move everything out to the driveway. It’s a bit of a jigsaw puzzle to get everything back into the garage – bandsaw and drill press stacked on table saw, etc…

Hey Kiersten, I just popped by your website again and while I enjoy your writing, there is a phrase you use, that may be accurate, but is somewhat troubling. That phrase is ‘mid-century’. The phrase sounds so old and having been alive mid-century, I feel old by association. So, while I don’t mind being old, it’s a bit unsettling to have my childhood place in mid century. ;-)

I like your furnitures. I find them beautiful, luminous in its simplicity; only some reticence about the legs: I find them too “serious” in comparison with the whole (just a humble opinion,:D ).
