COMPLETE REMODEL OF SHOP!!! - Ideas welcome.

I am going to “try” to do a good job of taking more pictures of my shop remodel than I usually do.

Of course I have already failed in that because I forgot to take the before pictures with all of tools randomly scattered around and very unuseful.

Intro: I have been very lucky in the last six months in that my lovely wife has allowed me to expand my tool collection. I have bought most of my tools or received them as gifts in the last 6 months actually. See my other posts for more info on tools acquired. Because of this, my shop has gotten pretty full of junk and tools. I need a complete overhaul of the shop that will allow me to do my “tinkering”, fine woodworking, rough carpentry, a small amount of metal work, and most importantly to my wife build her new kitchen cabinets.

I know it is not real without pictures, but how about a Sketchup drawing instead.

The only thing I left on/near the walls is what you see in the drawing. Everything else was removed and stuffed into my wifes garage. Now that is motivation to get the shop done.

I would love some ideas from you guys as I go along.

1) So far I am planning on a 6’ deep by 8’ long outfeed/side table for the Delta Unisaw/Router table. My 12” sliding miter saw will roll up next to the table to have 8’ on one side. A second top can be placed from the miter saw cart to a cabinet along the wall providing 8’ table on the other side. This will allow me to use the Unifence as a stop block for the miter saw and save some space. Since it is a slider, it would take a 44” deep cabinet to contain. That is why I am not putting it into the workbench like I’d like to. The planer will also be on a cart and can be moved into the same orientation as the miter saw.

2) I’m planning on a 18’ workbench against the west wall. This will house a lot of under storage as well as be my everything bench. I have two 8’ long hospital lab table tops for this purpose and plan to put a 2’ gap in them. This gap could house a number of different options: steel plate for pounding, grinder, metal vise, extra wood vise, ...

3) Dust collector and air compressor in a separate room at the N-W corner. (divide the room into two parts to keep dust out of air compressor)

I’ll try to get some more sketchup designs done for you all and get some pictures posted.
