Over the past week or so, different people are starting to put different things in their Blogs. We first had pictures, I don’t know if I’ve hears sounds, or music but, we have had Videos.
Last week I was posting in a blog about some Sassafras Lumber and I thought that I’d post a Scratch-n-Sniff Blog.
Now for this to work what you need to do is get a can of Root Beer. (Note Bud or Lone Star will not work). You can pour it over ice, in a glass by itself or over some Ice Cream (Your Choice).
Bring the Root Beer within arms reach of you sitting at the computer.
Click on the picture 
and with the root beer being held under your nose, scratch the board on the right. Did you get it. Now if you place the root beer on the table and scratch the board on the left you will notice that there is no smell. There could be a lingering slight smell of root beer, but that would probably be on your tongue, because I assume that you also took a drink. Am I right!
The grain structure of Ash and Sassafras is quite similar. The ash is noticeable lighter in color but heavier in weight. Ash has a Specific Gravity of .66 while Sassafras has a SG of .45
It would probably make a nice carving material, except for the pores that are similar to Red Oak.

Ok ummm, Karson, you’re starting to worry me. Why not take a little break from that Thorsen Table. Walk around outside for a little while. Spend some time with the wife. See a movie. The table will still be there when you get back.

I didn’t realize Sassafras grew that large, I thought it was just a bush. When I was visiting i Arkansas there were some bushes that I took some roots from. They smell delicious. Your shop must smell like a bottling plant. LOL

Hi Karson;
—-very good smelling Sassafras and no backlash from Ash, with compliments of Root Beer, Ha! I remember when as a teenager I would cruise into the local A&W Drive In, in my ‘57 Chevy and looking for some action. Back then the only action was hot rods and hot girls while drinking some Root Beer….and how the times have changed; wood, blogging and now we even have scratch-n-sniff blogs. What can we expect next….?
Maybe you’ve been reading my blogs too long and now look whats happening to your imagination….keep those blogs rolling, and while imagination goes after Sassafras and Ash, I’ll be drinking my Root Beer.
I also keep some smaller Ash around for making handles for my gouges, slicks and mallets.
