LumberJocks

Well the day has almost arrived, my 2nd anniversary to LumberJocks.

From a modest beginning, 5/9/2006, I signed in to a new web site www.lumberjocks.com. That was what it was called. It was identified in Woodshop News as a new woodworking site. I signed in to check it out. I was number 28 of those who have signed in.

Other than Martin who was #1, we have Ellen who checks in every so often. Phillip Edwards who is a woodworker in England who make some superb wooden planes. We then have Mark DeCou who is a frequent contributor to this site and if you look at the bottom of the page Mark’s picture is the link to the LJ Store. All of the others that are the early jocks have seen to have disappeared into the “woodwork”.

I can remember signing into sites, posting a question and then forgetting where they were, what they were called. LumberJocks was the same for me, except I remembered the web address. Coming in so early in the evolution of this site, not much was happening. You could check in every couple of days and see the same posts on the first page.

After a few active posters, the site became more active. But for me the first LumberJock Contest was the item that made me more active. There were some very nice items entered into the first contest.

I was blessed that I was able to win the first contest.

Click for details

The activity here has really expanded. The contests and woodworking challenge that we’ve done in co-operation with some woodworking magazines and also the cross linking with the Woodwhisper has caused the LJ site to become very active.

It has been a great privilege to be a part of this great woodworking site.

Ah, the good ol’ quiet days… So much has evolved, improved. Not just here but in our homes and shops.
Thanks for the watering hole Martin… and thanks for sticking around Karson! Coming up on two years myself… but it seems like a lifetime ago, no?

It has been a privilege to get to know you. Thanks for all you have done for us! I still think that cradle was a bit too much…what were you thinking you would keep in it, gold? Beautiful job!

I am approaching a year since I first logged on. Karson’s blogs and replies to others questions is one of the reasons I have stuck around.

Congratulations!

With just over a year here, I have heard the voice of only four Jocks; MsDebbieP, Todd Clippinger, Thomas Angle and you, Karson (let me tell you folks, his voice has a deep, sonorous bass timbre).

In my estimation Karson epitomizes the best in Lumberjock-dom: a teacher, organizer, Father and compassionate friend. One only need look around briefly to see the impact the you have had on these pages. And then there is the impact on tons of children when Christmas rolls around due to your generosity through the works of the Mason-Dixon Woodworkers Guild. I account it a distinct benefit to have made your acquaintance, sir.

For those of you who like visuals with your history lessons, here is a re-tread from one of the Shop Inspections…

And let’s not forget that he is the master of an incredible stash of lumber, the envy of any serious craftsperson.

We are privileged to have you as a member. You were one of the first jocks I placed on my buddy list. It did not take long to realise that much you have to share is of interest to me.

Congratulations Sir and thanks for sticking around

I appreciate the comments fellow LumberJocks. We’ve got a luncheon today with the State of Delaware for volunteering. The RSVP (Retired and Senior Volunteer Program) is honoring all of the volunteers that work within the State program. The Mason-Dixon Woodworkers and our Toy Program is one of the invited groups.

Thanks karson for everything you’ve done for me, the sharing we’ve done by phone has been a treat and I can’t wait to meet you someday face to face. I found out we have a guild here in mid-Michigan and maybe we can hook something up. You have been a truly great role model to us all and friend. You seem to have a knack of breaking up things and putting them on the right track. You just have a good head on your shoulders, granted its pretty bald and very humorous at times, but I love you like a brother. God Bless Friend. mike

Happy LJ Anniversary Karson. Thanks for all you do from detail blogs, your challenge entries, welcoming new jocks, 11000+ comments or other’s work, moral support and special joint projects. It’s good be a LumberJock knowing you are around here. Have a good weekend and I hope you have some especially nice weather so you can really take advantage of the new deck.
