I have enjoyed and admired the results of skilled woodworkers for years. Thirty years ago, I owned a radial arm saw and used it in refurbing three old homes. Now, I am interested in putting together a shop and getting my feet wet with simple, right-angled projects.
As of April, '08, stilll in the process of buying equipment and converting my garage into a workshop.
All I request from LumberJocks (I don't yet qualify for that appellation) is patience and understanding as I anticipate I will be asking lots of questions that clearly exhibit ignorance.

John,
In refernece to your question about the twin bed: I used 5/4 Ash milled down to 7/8 th and 5 inches wide. I determined the length by measuring the exsisting mattress and adding an inch to both ends to allow for the quilts and sheets. The other thing I did was round over the top edges to prevent scraping the hands when making the bed. Also a great place for this bed and other alternatives to this plan you can find in workbench magazine website and its free, just modify to suit your design. Billy

Welcome to Lumberjocks. The projects are an inspiration, the information is priceless and the people are supportive. The only problem is, the site can get addictive.
God Bless
