I'm a self taught woodworker and enjoy building anything out of wood. I've learned a lot from this site, woodworking magazines, woodworking shows and other fellow woodworkers. I find myself drawn to Craftsman and Greene & Greene style furniture. Shaker furniture is also at the top of my list.

I live in Central, Illinois with my wife and four children.

This is my first posting on the Lumberjocks website. I apologize I do not have any project pictures yet,but I will post a few when I get some time. I really enjoy woodworking, but I also like looking at all the other projects and reading the other posts. There are some very talented craftsman posting to this website and I hope to learn as much as I can. I live in a 100 year old house and most of our furnishings are Craftsman style. Craftsman and Greene and Greene furniture interest me the most, with Shaker coming in a close second. I am just now getting my shop put together. This year I purchased a table saw, band saw and a few routers. I also built a router table cabinet and a crosscut sled for my TS. My next project will be a sturdy workbench. I also enjoy refurbishing old hand tools, planes mainly. There is nothing like rescuing a tool from the grave and making it a usable addition to my shop. I have three kids with one on the way, so time in the shop is at a premium these days, but my wife lets me out of the house on occasion.

I’ll write more later and also post a few photos of recent projects.

Thanks.

OK, time for my first question. I’m looking for a good finish combination for Craftsman furniture (QSWO). In the past I’ve done some experimenting with different stains and oils, but I can never get “that color”. I know you can fume pieces, but I want to stay away from that if I can. I don’t mind doing several coats if it will give me what I’m looking for.

Any ideas?

Let me welcome you to LJs. I hope that you will find this to be an interesting and exciting part of your woodworking journey.

Todd,

You would do better to post this question as a forum topic. It will get more views there.

Thanks for all the recommendations guys.

Tim, I’ve been looking at your work for some time now. I think you and I have the same taste in furniture design and the color of your pieces is what I was looking for. I’d really like some more information on how you made the the lamp shades. I’m sure it was pretty involved.

I hope to post some pics once I get our new digital camera. Our old camera broke.

Thanks again to everyone for the tips!!

Welcome to Lumberjocks. The projects are an inspiration, the information is priceless and the people are supportive. The only problem is, the site can get addictive.

God Bless
