My life changed forever on Oct. 28-2004. At this time and before I was an Emergency Room Tech./EKG Tech.and a part time plumbing associate for Lowe's. I also had a small woodworking business that I did when I was not working at my 2 real jobs or remodleing my house I would work in my shop. I was at Lowe's about 8:00 that evening doing a 4 to 10:00 PM shift. When I felt something in my left shoulder pop. It hurt something terrible, the only way to comfort the pain was tossing my left arm over my head resting on my neck. It looked rediculous but it did cut the pain. I left at 10 to go home for breakfast, yes breakfast at 10:00 PM. You see I worked full time in the hospital on the graveyard shift.I was not going to go in but I remembered my buddy who happened to be a doctor was going to be there that night. So I asked him to write me a prescription for some muscle relaxers. I finished my shift and went right to the Pharmacy on the way home that moring of Oct.29-2004. Thank god there just happen to be a pharmacy that open early on my way home. I got the scrip filled and went home to bed after takeing 2 pills. It hurt bad I could not sleep. I knew there was something more wrong other than a pulled muscle. Long story short I ended up with Degerative Disk Disease I am totally disabled now on SSI disability and not likeing it at all. I do get into my shop but not as often as I did when I was working 2 jobs and trying to remodle a house. When I do get in there I always over do it and end up in pain for a day or 2 afterward. I can't help it I just love the smell of fresh sawn lumber. I tryed to get my 3 sons interested in woodworking but naw they would rather play vidio games or go out with their girl friends or just their buddies. My 12 year old daughter though loves it and is always asking me to teach her more. I told her brothers when they get their own homes they are going to have to call their sister to come and help them build the new kitchen cabinets or bathroom medicine chest. speaking of building that is what I build cabinets, bookcases, tables night stands shelving units picnic tables and my favorite adirondack chairs. I have plans that I bought and that I designed myself for about 8 to 10 different styles of chairs. So that is what I do what I have done in the past and although disabled I still try and get into that shop every time my back permits.

Welcome to LumberJocks. Enjoy the community. Your unfortunate story should serve as an inspiration to all of us that love this hobby. Best of luck and hope you are able to spend time in your shop more frequently.

I would like to thank you all for the warm welcome you all gave me. I had to send a personal thank you to Grumpy because I could not for the life of me figure out how someone could get a handle like that with such a big smile. Sorry it took so long to say thank you I have been trying to get things set up here and it sure takes time because I get distracted reading other stuff that you all have here. Again I want to thank everyone for the welcome hope I can help anyone with any questions they have with just about anything.

Great to see you here, this is a great site. I hope to see more of your work. Benches are my favorite and I have made some Adirondack chairs also.
