The state income tax man was a little generous this year. I’ve ordered a new piece of hardware for my shop. I ordered a Grizzly wood lathe model G0462. I ordered it on Saturday and it’s going to be delivered either today or tomorrow. Another example of the great customer service I’ve come to expect from Grizzly.
I’ve never used a lathe in my life. I’m anxious to try my hand at turning, but I’m also a little afraid. Turning seems to be something that can be fairly dangerous. Running a board through a table saw isn’t too dangerous if you keep your hands away from the blade and take steps to prevent kickback. I’m a bit afraid of having a tool catching on the wood and having it ripped from my hands.
Anyways, I’ll provide a review of the lathe once I get it and set it up. Would everyone prefer a review of the quality first and a follow up of how it works in use? Or, would you prefer I wait till I’ve had some experience with it?

You might want to post a blog of the install to start and then follow up with a review of your experience with the tool- if, of course, you can pull yourself off the lathe long enough to work up a review. :)

Hi Owen,
Check this out it may be of some help to you. Congrats on your purchase and once the lathe bug has bit it bites hard, you wont be able to get away from it. Happy turning to you.

I am anxious for you. I bought that same lathe in early March. One word of caution – it is highly addictive!

You’ll be okay. Just keep those sleeves rolled up and let the wood come to the tool.

There are a stack of really good DVD’s out there for instruction. I can send you a list of some I’ve used if you like.

Brunob, I’d be very grateful for references to any videos. Hmm, I never thought to check Netflix to see if they have these kinds of “special interest” DVD’s.

Jim,
I can’t read the blog entry tonight, (darn work has got me very busy lately, worked 14 hours yesterday), but I’ll read it as soon as I can. Nice to see you have the same lathe I bought.
