Ok here is my entry for the bookcase challenge. This piece is a complex design and I hope that I will not build this one. Although beings that my wife loves this design it will probably have to be built. The original design was to be made from a sustainable material. Though it is shown in three different woods paduk, walnut, and lace wood. I would like to claim this idea for my own original idea, but my wife actually came up with this. Hey she could almost make it as my designer. Good luck to everyone that enters this contest!

That is a unique and very interesting design. I wish you luck in the contest.

Looks nice. Is that top center shelf attached on the sides anywhere or is it just hanging there attached at the rear?

I was wondering when that one would be asked. In the plans this shelf is going to look as it is floating somehow. So no it is not attached on the sides only at the back of the case.

One (crazy???) idea / suggestion:
If the back is thick enough, and that one shelf won’t hold too much weight, you could use metal bars inserted in the back of the shelf, to make it a “floating shelf” – epoxy should hold the bars in place; insertion of about 1/3 to 1/2 the width of the shelf should be sufficient. The bars themselves would have to be secured pretty well to the back.
