Part 1: 1st attempt at the new bandsaw
So I am pretty new at this woodworking thing and am just now acquiring tools. I have already picked up a table saw, drill press, mortiser and various other small power and hand tools.. .. Took a band saw class a couple weeks ago and decided I needed a band saw (see my project band saw reindeer for the story). I went to sears and bought the craftsman pro 14 in rikkon clone saw…. Well, after unpacking and setting up the saw…. The blade will not tension and will not track properly…. Oh it se...
Part 2: Update
Ok so I got off the phone with Woodcraft…. they said no problem… the manager was placing a stock order with Jet today and will include my new base in the order which should come on a pallet so there is much less a chance of damage….. the down side 10 days to wait…. but I think I am going to put the saw togeather tonight just to check to make sure the rest of the saw is in working order…... I am sure it is…... so part 3 when the new base comes in…...
Part 3: Update - No good news
I called woodcraft last Friday as it was 3 weeks after the order was to be put in for the new base. The update at that point was no update…. The woodcraft manager said he was looing into what the base was not shipped with the stock order. Well today (4 weeks after purchase and report of the issue) the manager at woodcaft calls me a few min. ago…. the reason for the delay is…. the base is on backorder until sometime in July….. While I know this is not the fault...
Part 4: Update - Really good news
Well I decided (read the wife decided) that I had waited long enough and that the bandsaw should go back and I would pick from one in stock today…. SO we went down to woodcraft this afternoon while we were on the way to a BBQ some of my wifes friends were throwing (woodcraft is in the same area as the friends) The manager at woodcraft was excellent as really he has been since this all started.. we unloaded the bandsaw in the back and he showed me the s14” saws they had in stoc...
Part 5: Set-up
I unboxed the saw an with help from my father on Sunday got the saw body attached and the riser block installed. My wife’s birthday was Tuesday, so my family took us out to dinner then did the cake and presents thing at my Wife and my house. (hence how I got my father to come help me). The saw sat mostly together on Monday night as friends of our recently became parents and they wanted a night out with the baby “McLovin” ( I love my friends) and we are the most laid bac...
Part 6: All Together now
The bandsaw is completely together with the miter and fence holder… the Fince holder is not so great but the miter holder seems to work well. I did some test cuts with the stock blade… not bad pretty smooth… did not check the drift yet … wasn’t seriously testing the saw…. not sure I could really even wright a real review for it as I am so new to bandsaws and woodworking… I also haven’t done a nickel test yet but I will do that in the am. On...
