I unboxed the saw an with help from my father on Sunday got the saw body attached and the riser block installed. My wife’s birthday was Tuesday, so my family took us out to dinner then did the cake and presents thing at my Wife and my house. (hence how I got my father to come help me).
The saw sat mostly together on Monday night as friends of our recently became parents and they wanted a night out with the baby “McLovin” ( I love my friends) and we are the most laid back of all thier friends soo little Mclovin had his first trip to Beel O’Gradys and Marble Slab Icecream.
Tuesday had the Saw sitting in it’s sad state while I took the wife to dinner and treated her to a bottle of 12yr Jamesson’s ( I married a Wiskey drinkin woman ) then some Tv shows she likes to watch.
So that leaves tonight…. Riser block parts are now all on the saw, blower hose is set up, Blade is on tensioned and tracking properly ….... and this bring me to my first lesson in not hurring in the shop and pushing to do more once you are tired…. not a big thing just a small cut… I was setting up the roller barring guides and instead of using the hex wrench away from the saw blade I was tuning the wrech in front of the blade in a downward motion….slipped cut myself on the outside of my thumb… hurt like helck bled some… I felt like an idiot because it hit me how dumb I was being and how I was just pushing to get a little bit more done before bed….. Lession Learned…..
The worse part was having to tell my wife what I had done and how dumb I knew it was…. She got upset at first.. she is kind of scared of this new hobby of mine. I showed her it was a little cut and that my fingers were still there… Then she looked at me and said well… you wont do that again will you??
I said nope.

Hey man, been there done that. But you got lucky, I loped off the end of my thumb when I was 12 down in my grand dad’s shop. Its nice to hear that you got your saw up and running tho, hope to see some good things being made in the shop soon. Maybe some nice camp furniture. I have enjoyed reading your adventures, keep up with the posts.

Nice job on getting the saw up and running to this point. Too often when we get involved with a new tool the adrenaline rush takes over and we forget to slow down and take things one step at a time. When I was installing my bandsaw in December I tried to do it by myself. Things went pretty smoothly until I came to the riser block assembly. It just isn’t possible to hold the saw head and install the block alone. I had to enlist my wife’s help and listen to her chiding me for interrupting a program she was watching.
Anyway keep us posted on the progress.

Rustic: I have a list of camp stuff I want to make and some outdoor furniture around the house… and thanks I will keep posting as things happen …..
Scott: Ya know I know better but you are right it was the new toy rush that made me push on….
Brunob: I care alot about safety but for some reason (tired and in a hurry I suspect) it didn’t dawn on me that the blade is still sharp when it isn’t moving and that the blade is sharp on both sides of the gulliet… whoda thunk?? Dumb mistake on my part glad it wasn’t any worse, but lesson as learned….
As a side note…. I was just reading the Safety section here at LJ yesterday afternoon duh!!!!
