« Part 3: Update - No good news Part 4 of Bandsaw Adventure series Part 5: Set-up »

Well I decided (read the wife decided) that I had waited long enough and that the bandsaw should go back and I would pick from one in stock today…. SO we went down to woodcraft this afternoon while we were on the way to a BBQ some of my wifes friends were throwing (woodcraft is in the same area as the friends) The manager at woodcraft was excellent as really he has been since this all started.. we unloaded the bandsaw in the back and he showed me the s14” saws they had in stock….. well and one 16” saw ( a temtation but we were in my wifes Tucson so would have never fit it in the car.) the 14s in stock were the regular model Jet closed stand, the rikon deluxe, Delta X5 and a Powermatic…...

Decided against the Rikon as it is too simular to the very fist saw I had bought (craftsman pro 14”) that I couldn’t get to hold tention or track properly so the Rikon was out.

I really wanted larger then the 1hp that the Jet had so the jet saw was out…....I am not doing resawing yet but I have learned that buying more then you need at this point is better then buying twice.

So we are down to the Delta or the Powermatic.. which I had not looked at before because the Jet Deluxe we so much cheaper and had all that I was looking for…....

So I was really looking at the delta as I felt that the Powermatic was out of my price range…. my wife walks over to the powermatic and asks “what about this one” I grinned and showed her the price and she said “OH” well she then asked what comes with the delta saw and I explained well the saw…. she then asked me what comes with the powermatic…. fence, miter, light, chip blower and as we were talking the woodcraft maneger tells us that they are giving the riser blocks away with the saws…. then My dear wife asked how much it would cost to buy the assessories for the delta saw that the powermatic came with.. which I explained I didn’t need all of the extras now…. she insisted on finding out…. well the total came out a little higher for the delta + assessories…............

So my great loving wonderful wife tells me to get the Powermatic….. so I did… then at the regester she asked if they had the mobile base instock…. and bought that for me too…. Did I mention how cool my wife is??? (we are still pretty much newly weds 1yr and a half today I was reminded)

The downside is having me shiny new toy in the back of her little SUV and haveing to go to a BBQ with people I really didn’t know and not getting the saw out and setting it up…... owell she has been friends with these people for yrs and yrs and they all ended up being really cool people.

I know this is long winded and all…. will be posting pics and setup blog at some point over the next few days…..

Dude! Your wife rocks!

I was out in the shop the other day putting my dado stack away. My wife comes out to chat and sees the dado stack. She says “When did you get that”? (like I had bought it without getting permission). I says “bout 6 years ago”.

She says “Oh” With half a “Your fullofit look”.

I can’t complain though. I have a shop full of tools and lots of birthdays, Christmases, Anniversaries and Fathers days to look forward to. (Plus a wife of 24 years)

Sounds like you got a good deal——on the band saw AND the wife!

Now you need to get it set up, tuned up and make something really nice for your wife with it. Looking forward to what you come up with.

That’s great, I’ve had a wife like that for 47 years now and I wouldn’t trade her for any bandsaw, well maybe a Powermatic.

glad to see you have a wife that does not require you to use the 50 – 100 rule. 50 – 100 is the standard man lie.. small stuff, no matter how expensive cost only 50 dollars and big stuff costs 100…

I made the same powermatic decision. It has everything already and in the end costs less than beefing up an inferior saw. Next for you should be the riser block. good luck with your set up. takes longer than you think and requires another set of hands.

Yeah she is a good one…. She travels alot for work (3 to 4 days a week every week) so she is happy I have a hobby and not out at the bars….

ntthunter: they threw in the riser block already … had my Dad come down and help me put it togeather, and yeah it took MUCH longer then I had expected.

Lazy: I wouldn’t trade her for all the gold in California :D

Nice score on the saw. Your wife is a very perceptive shopper. She is right in that factoring in the upgrades that come standard with the Powermatic you are in the same price range as the other saws.

Well done.
