no previous part Part 1 of Bandsaw Adventure series Part 2: Update »

So I am pretty new at this woodworking thing and am just now acquiring tools. I have already picked up a table saw, drill press, mortiser and various other small power and hand tools.. .. Took a band saw class a couple weeks ago and decided I needed a band saw (see my project band saw reindeer for the story). I went to sears and bought the craftsman pro 14 in rikkon clone saw…. Well, after unpacking and setting up the saw…. The blade will not tension and will not track properly…. Oh it seems like it is setup correctly…. Run a piece of ¾ poplar through it and bam!!! The blade almost comes off the top tire…. So after another hr of cursing the saw gets boxed back up and goes back to sears……..

Now fast forward to last Thursday I went into Woodcraft and ordered a 14 in Jet Deluxe band saw.. (After reading the great review here on LJ), first they said they had it… the computer showed one in stock…. I am of coarse as excited as a kid at Christmas….. Well no they have the top half of the saw (comes in 2 cartons) but no base… darn the luck, so I order a new one 2 week’s wait time… So you can all imagine my excitement when I get a call this morning from Woodcraft…. They sent them the bottom to the saw they have whooohoooo…… I cash in some of the late evenings I have been working at the job and tell the boss I am headed out (I am salary so no overtime anyway). So I get to Woodcraft they have it on a dolly for me ready to go…. Who I think was a rep or maybe the owner was there and well it was Christmas.. Great deals on some extra stuff so I am as happy as it gets……
Well here I sit typing on this forum instead of making some saw dust and why you might as….. I unpack the base… ouch it is dented and scrapped up pretty bad.. I at first figure owell the paint is scraped and there are a few dings no big dead…. Until I got it on the shop(ok garage but indulge me) floor and it is very unstable…. It wobbles quite a bit on the diagonal that has the bent corner. So there you have it, not just cosmetic and the Woodcraft is closed so I cannot call them…. Which I will do on lunch tomorrow I am sure it is no big deal just another wait for it to come it….. When it gets here I will post band saw adventure part duex…. Hopefully there will not be part 3 LOL
So till next time!!!!!!!! Happy woodworking

i know how you feel. i hate when you get all excited and you just get let down. like tonight my mom brought me to my sisters gymnastics thing (?) at 730 saying it would be a half hour and i would be home at 8 to watch the wood whisperer live chat. well we have to be there by 700 (didn’t mention that) and it didn’t get out until about 900. I got home at nine running up the stairs to find out that there was no chat with Marc tonight, lol!! what can you do!

What a let down!!! I am sure that Woodcraft will make it right.
