I have been " butchering wood" for going on 30years. My college education was in Forestry (Northern Ontario) where I learned a great appreciation of the "Tree" (whether it was standing or laying in a pile of lumber). I can say I enjoy walking through any "bush" identifying the living trees as much as walking through a "woodjocky"s candy store" (hardwood sawmill). Not able to make a reasonable living and the "kids needing shoes", I ended up in Windsor, Ontario (across the "creek" from Detroit) where I have been "fighting fires and saving lives" (in the most modest terms) for almost the same amount of time.
I enjoy building in every facate of construction from the foundation up. I am particular interested in practices and constructions of the past whether it is in a Victorian home or an old New England barn. I enjoy furniture restoration as much as building pieces. In plane simple turns , I enjoy the beauty of the wood from its location in the woodlot, to the piles of lumber in the sawmill; to a finished piece of furniture or natural panelling in the home. I also love the smell of a burning hardwood fire.
I would say I am in my 2nd generation of my workshop. I recently purchased the "Benford 2000, testosterone driven 3hp table saw" (General 3050) and have been updating around it with other quality made tools (ie Dewalt ,Freud, Porter Cable, etc.) I do alot of research before I buy and visit alot to the "tool review sites." I was researching the prospect (I am commited now) of buying the Veritas twin screw bench clamp for my hardwood bench when I came across the Lumberjock website.
I hope in the future to make further contributiions in pictures and articles once I get the hang of this site.

I have the General (not General International) 3050 with a 3hp and 220 power source. I can tell you it is one fine example of how North American made is so much superior to the foreign imports (made in Quebec). For many years I had a inferior 10” and finally found the “pesos” to spend ($2000). It is solid cast and will last my lifetime plus my sons. I cut 2 1/2 walnut or white oak without a problem. I have the Excalibor fence and precision is what you get for a cabinet table saw. I understand from what I read that the General line is not that plentiful in the US. I did a lot of research and bought it on E-Bay. I travelled 150 miles and brought it home in a snow storm(the weight of 500 lbs in the back of a pick-up gave me lots of traction). I got three strong “boys” and put it in the basement.
