The Thoreson Table Challenge...It's now out of the bag

Blog entry by Greg3G posted 604 days ago 291 reads 0 times favorited 22 comments Add to Favorites

I just received my PW e-newsletter and low and behold….there it is. The Thoreson Table challenge. Martin hold onto you hat, I think the site will be getting busy. I hope everyone has their table planned out. I have an MRI scheduled for Friday on my shoulder (my youthful exhuberance is catching up with me.) so I am not sure if I can get it done in time. I am going to give it my best effort.

We always are…

Don’t worry Greg, I haven’t started mine yet either…. maybe I’ll just “rename” one of my boxes! Talk about a loose re-interpretation!

Good luck with the MRI.

Not a big deal….I was young and enthusiatic 20 years ago when i was in the army and all those “minor” injuries (to include dislocating my shoulder a couple of times.) are starting to catch up with me.

I am torn on my selection of wood. I have three in mind , Mahogany with ebony (not too oringinal on that one.) Maple with ebony or other tropical hardwood for highlights. or Oak with dyed oak highlights (this is the easiest as I have all the materials on hand.)

Any others contimplating different materials?

If I dont use what reclaimed materials I have already on hand (some random hardwoods, but old pine mostly) I’m sure I’ll be using something local (most likely).

Hey Scott, a Thorsen table squirrels can play on and voila, you’re done! (and I doubt you’d get into copyright infringement on that one ;-)

Good luck with the MRI Greg. Hope it goes well.

Hey Chip, thanks for that…. and it’s mahogany to boot! I’m done. Check the clock. Did I win?

Too funny. LOL. Good luck with the “real” one Scott. And no hanging corn off of it for goodness sake.

Has anyone noticed that we’ve had more than a dozen new lumberjocks sign up since this blog was posted? Coincedence?

I noticed… glad Greg gave us the heads up to make sure the door was open! I’ve also noticed the NH contingent grow by 33%!

We are sure jumping now..up to 608 and climbing. Obi’s prediction of July for 1000 may be too long in the future. We may hit 1000 just from the Thorsen Table challenge.

Scott,
How about all of that deck Mahogany? Or did you use it all up on squirrels.

Yeah, the squirrels pretty much have it… as well as a few turnings ;)

Actually there really isn’t all that much mahogany left over. no pieces left over 1 BF or so. They planned and budgeted for materials pretty well.

Can’t forsee them letting me rip off a couple boards in the name of the Thorsen Table Challenge… even if I they get to keep it.

665! On the way to the 1000 mark.

BTW..scott…there is something about using mahogany on a bunch of squirrels that seems very wrong :) that was a great peice of future furniture that you attached the toy to though.

At the toy making workshop last Wed someone pulled out some buckets that were filled with mahogany sticks 3/4” square and 3’ long. they were being used for logs for a toy log cabin. I might have to grab a few to get my squirrels dizzy also.

Maybe I can get them into one of those lawn rollers that have the balls with dowels and make my own squirrel wheel. Then hook it up to a generator and generate my own electricity.

This may go somewhere.
