Hi All,
Well, here’s Part 2 of this two part video on making a shop built mitre gauge. In this video I’ll show you how I built the mitre gauge body and attached it to the mitre gauge bar to form an accurate, inexpensive mitre gauge.
I’ll also cover “dialing in” that shop built mitre gauge to your existing mitre slot no matter what machine you’re using it for. Once you’ve seen how to do this, you’ll be able to “dial in” your mitre gauge to within one thousandth of an inch………………….how’s that for accuracy?
And for those who have a mitre gauge bar that is equipped with 3 set screws for achieving virtually no play in the mitre slot………………..check out the ending of the video.

Glad you liked it, I had fun doing it, thanks for your kind words.
And yes, I could do with an agent only if you take me out to dinner first. <g>

Gord, very good, and informative. I probably wouldn’t have tried to build my own mitre gauge if it hadn’t been for your videos…...I saw something close to what you did in Shopnotes, but was intimidated, about accuracy. Thanks.

Hello TopE5,
”I probably wouldn’t have tried to build my own mitre gauge if it hadn’t been for your videos……”
Your comment above made all the work I did on this video worth every single minute; I really want you to know that.
If I can inspire someone to try something new or step out of their comfort zone for a moment, I’ve accomplished what I’ve set out to do.
Take what you’ve seen in the video and improve on it and then send it along to someone else who can use the idea and hopefully they’ll do the same.
Spread the word, grow the craft, and pass on what you know, this to me is the essence of woodworking and what we as woodworkers should be doing.
Once again, thank you for your kind words.
All the best

Hello TopE5
As long as woodworkers are getting something from these videos that can make their time in their workshops, safer, more productive and more enjoyable, I’ll continue to make these videos.
I’m glad you liked it and thanks again for your kind words.

I watched both of you miter gauge videos and they are very informative THANKS. I have only one question and that is what do you use to measure the angles of the gauge? I know you can use a square to set 45 & 90 degrees but what about 57 1/2 etc?

Hi Gord, yet another great project, in fact you have solved a problem i experienced on my Bandsaw mitre gauge, a finnished joint was not fitting right, after watching your video or Matt’s video, I checked my gauge, it was loose, I dimpeld the bar ,as demonstrated, and “hey presto!” a nice tight joint. The bar was only out a little, but enough to give me greef.
sorry to get the “camera operators” name wrong.
many thanks.
