I custom designed and built my shop. It’s 1000 sqft.
I placed 4” pvc pipe under the slab for the dust collector
There is an dust free office in one corner for small projects. The first thing I did was to build a maple workbench that is 3×8 feet.

It is a little better organized now than in the pictures.

Nice shop like the size and the large garage door for access. Looks like you built a New Yankee Workshop router table….

It is a very nice shop! Ornamental lathe, great bench, router table, tools and gun control motto, too! LOL. Your shop almost dwarfs your house. What a great looking place. I can’t wait to see some of your projects. Thanks for all the pictures.

Great shop Gary. I love that work bench you made. How many Bd Ft did that take?

I also love that big table for your tablesaw. Lots of nice room all over to work.

Gary – what a nice space to work in! I’d like to know more about the construction of the bench too. Do you have any pics of the process that you could post as a blog? Thanks for letting us in!

Gary, looks like you have a long commute to your workspace. :-) How old is that Delta X ts and would you buy it again? Ditto on the Delta jointer. Thanks.

Hey John,

I got that Delta X from Amazon for a total of $1,343.25 including shipping. They screwed up on their price so I ordered it on the spot. The next day it was back to $2000 plus. But that aside, I am very happy with it. The blade was so good that I haven’t even put my brand new forrest blade on it yet. It’s a big step up from my delta contractor saw. But every project I have posted so far except for the workbench and shuffleboard table were made on that contractor saw.

As for the jointer, it’s so-so. I had to shim the outfeed table, but other than that it works. I really don’t have anything to compare it to but I bet there are a lot better.

With all of the nice comments you’ve given me, I’m taking some time to look over some of your work.

You have a terrific looking shop, & I like your workbench, & Router table.

I wish I had all of that space, but in this country I couldn’t afford to heat it.

Gary,

Questions about your Bench.

  1. Do you like the traditional Tail vise? What prompted you to build it like that instead of a full length vice?
  2. Are you happy that you didn’t make a tool well?

I have two projects to complete and then I intend to start a workbench.

Scott – As far as the vise goes, there is no reason. I just liked it.

As far as the tool well goes, that I didn’t want. It would just collect tools, chips and all kinds of other junk.
With all the drawers I added I wouldn’t come close to needing one. It’s a personal choice.

Good luck with your bench.

Very nice shop. I love the way you boxed in the dust collection to help reduce noise. The bench is excellent too. You’ve got a great set up. I bet you couldn’t wait to get that all set up so you could get building. Wonderful stuff.

Oh the dream shop. 1000 sqft? if only I had that kind of space…and the time to spend in it. I cant imagine having that kind of room to move around in and actually having machines in a relatively stationary location.
As with all of your projects…beautiful. Well planned and beautifully executed. Curious….is that bridgeport mill hiding behind the drill press?

Hi Gary,

I don’t know how your shop post slipped past me but I am glad it came up on my list. You have some nice tools in there to play with. The one thing I didn’t see was lumber storage. Where do you keep it?

In the first picture to the right of the bench there appears to be another room. Do you use this as part of your shop?

Thanks for the shop tour, Gary. I would enjoy working in a set up like this.

Scott – I keep the lumber in the corner just to the left of the large door.

That room is my “Clean Room” and office for doing small projects.
