Well, the wife started working a while back and now I have a lot more father duties to keep me away from the computer. It’s amazing how a 1 1/2 old can spend your time for you.
I still read posts when I get the chance and post comments when I see a fantastic new project.
I have a new project in the works that I think will be pretty cool. I’ve been gluing it up little by little for over a week now.
I am always “thinking wood” though!

Yes, I remember the toddler years well. It may seem like a duty sometimes, but think of it as a privilege. There will be plenty of time left for woodworking when that little one is old enough to want to be away from Mom and Dad as much as possible.

Good to hear from you Gary… You’re probably getting plenty of excercise chasing your toddler around.

I figured something (besides shop time) was keeping you busy. But spending time with your daughter is infinitely more important. Have fun and enjoy this time together. And squeeze some shop time in when you can.
-- With God's help all things are possible- even woodworking. Woodworking is not just a hobby, it is an (expletive deleted) expensive hobby.

1 1/2 years old, WOW. I’d say that’s old enough to hold a paint brush, spread some glue and pick up scraps from the shop floor.
Seems like this is a win-win situation. You get shop time AND a helper. Besides, you’re going to have to give her a bath anyway.

good to hear from you again. The gift of your real presence in her life now will continue to be given for generations. no matter how wonderfull you execute the creation of a project, once you stop investing in it the creation is done. Every ounce of love and effort you lavish on your family becomes a never ending creation that will continue to mold and shape the world long after you have dadoed your last rabbit.

My guess is, Gary’s coming up with a new automatic diaper changing table. And, made with cedar, to mask those poopy diaper smells!

I was going to say what a few others’ suggested and say that at that age, it’s about time the child start getting some shop time in. My Great Grandfather started me out young when he was in the shop. He gave me a paintbrush and told me to get to work, on his old VW bus. He didn’t give us paint though, it was our job to “paint” (wash) the VW, so he could deliver his pieces that he created. I never got to spend much actual shop time with any of my Grandfathers, but I still cherish THAT memory for sure. Not to mention having a few pieces that he made, over 55 years ago.

Gary,
Glad to hear that your fatherly duties have increased. There is nothing quite like spending time with your children especially when they are young and you get to watch them discover new things. It’s time to start making some wooden toys! Enjoy

Just as note the belt sander likes to rub little kids the wrong way! My 7 year old daughter was sanding the other day and it got her finger tip and a bit of hr finger nail. So was none to please to say the least, as I was assisting in the venture and “caused the accident”, thankfully she has told me and momma that she is no longer mad at me! :)
Enjoy it when they are toddlers that is some of the most fun and amazing time you will have with them!

Gary, its only these 1st few years that you and your wife are the greatest influence in your children’s lives. once they start school that influence will begin to be shared, first with teachers and, in time with peers. Cherish them ( these years ) you will create memories that will stay with you when many projects will be forgotten. And use these times to build the strong values that will become the foundation for the rest of thier lives. bless you both and take time to realy enjoy each other. rt

Just wait till he starts following you into the shop. Then you got problems. So, ya got something in the oven, huh. I can’t wait, it’s probably the next greatest invention of all time. Just remember us little people. LOL.

Just today, my husband and I were talking about the fact that Gary was “missing.” We were hoping that all was well with you, and are relieved to hear you’re spending precious time with your toddler. Proverbs 22:6
We’ll anxiously await your latest brainstorm!

How I miss those days….my girls are now 25 and 22, but I have a grandson that is 2 and another on the way. I love every moment I spend with them. I can remember wondering if I would ever have a moment to myself when they were little, but it all paid off because now they love spending time with ME…and I love to spoil my grandson, my excuse is I am just paying my daughter back for some of those hair pulling days she gave me. He lives far enough away that mom can get him under control before my next visit. He loves hammers and blocks so I am counting the days when he can come stay with me and we can build something together.

Thats it! Gary is missing, he has developed some kind of time warp device so now he is master of time, space and matter. I told you so.
