I forgot to mention that after I made my Inlayed TV Remote Table to keep the remotes away from my 1 year old, she learned to open the drawer and take them out.
Well, we can’t have that, so I child proofed the drawer. I wanted to do it in a way that wasn’t permanent, and that was easy to remove once she grew out of it.
This is what I can up with. Only 2 screws to attach it, so after I remove it, it’s like it was never there.
Now my drawer is a special case since it opens from both directions.
It’s gravity operated with the screws in slots on the dark piece going from front to back.
The light pieces stick up, catching on the bottom inside of the drawer preventing it from opening.
I also had to made a “ramp” on one side of the light pieces to allow the drawer to move it out of the way when I closed the drawer.

Here you can see it with the light piece up to block the drawer from opening. Also you can see on of the screws to mount it and the “ramp” on the far piece.

Here you can see it pushed up to allow the drawer to open. It’s easy to do one handed.

That is an innovative method to keep your daughter out of the drawer but I have to agree with DeputyDawg. I am sure that she will figure it out shortly. It is surprising how adept they are at coming up with “solutions” to these type of “puzzles”. Just make sure you only open it when she is out of the room.

The tricks we play on the poor little kids. Looks very effective Gary. My elldest grandaughter could use a remote control before she could walk so there sure is a need to secure things. My wife has a kitchen cupboard full of tupperware for the kids to do whatever they like with (that stuff that everybody hates & no one admits they use it).

kids ingenuity for doing things they shouldn’t be doing always amazes me. it seems that in order to teach them the multiplication table, all you have to do is devise a lock that works on solving multiplication problems :-)

A very good attempt to prevent the child from opening the drawer. But pl don’n underestimate their ability to overcome this hurdle put on them. Hope she will not use extra force to open it out of frustration and damage the drawer or take help of somebody to know the trick. Well done.

All the child-locks I’ve used haven’t lasted very long for drawers. They are all one good yank from breaking. Nice post. I did have to show my Mom how to open a bathroom door a few weeks ago. Couldn’t figure out the squeeze then turn lock. Found it funny.
