I was working on a new project when I layed out a bookmatched veneer and right there in the middle was a smiling face staring out at me. It’s 2 1/4” tall. What got me most were the pupils.
The veneer is Indonesian Madrone burl.

that is awesome. You should save it and put it on a double open door so you have the face right in the middle of the piece. thanks for the post.

That is interesting. It you can keep the section together on the project it certainly would add a lot of visual interest to the piece.

Just say it’s the virgin mary and put it on ebay. Should be able to outfit a few workshops with the windfall. Beautiful wood, with or without the virgin ;-). I’m sure you will do it proud.

I think this merits puting in a frame and hanging it on the wall…proof the rare Indonesian Madrone Gorilla actually exists (a distant cousin to Bigfoot) :-)

Looks like Elmer Fudd to me——- that wide eyed expression of ah shucks—missed again.
I like the Virgin Mary and e-bay idea though—that could keep you in woodworking tools for a long time!
